Samsung files patent app for phone with integrated Bluetooth headset

We're all about Bluetooth headsets round about these parts - preferable A2DP, of course -- and so this bit of inspired inventiveness really grabbed our attention. While they are the handiest of things to use, it can be a chore to keep track of them, keep them charged, and just plain not lose 'em while out running around. Samsung's patent application should sort all those troubles in one hop by having the headset actually merge with the phone to keep it charged, have it all fit in your pocket / carrying case, and help keep you from forgetting it at home. This is a fine idea, we just need the specs bumped to stereo and we're good to go. Thanks Samsung, top shelf bit of thinking.

Great idea! Until you lose the headset, then your phone looks broken and it would probably cost alot to replace it =(

So scrap the whole idea because you lose stuff. Hell, scrap cell phones while you're at it. I've lost one of those before...

haha calm down, I was just pointing out how it would look strange if you misplaced the headset. I think its an ingenious idea, and it makes carring a phone and a headset easier.

ummm... Not to be rude, but do you understand what stereo is? Why would you possibly care that you had A2DP on a single ear headset? That's like asking for 4-wheel drive on your motorcycle!

...he was saying, in general, that he prefers phones to support AD2P. Also, he's an Engadget writer, of course he knows what it is.

This device looks hella cool, but the headset doesn't look like it'd be that comfortable. I don't see how it will be possible to have a phone thin enough to be a Samsung, but thick enough to fit around an ear. Anyway, I'd love to see this done...well.

I guess that's my whole point... this is designed and purpose built for the person who does not want to carry a second "device" in the form of an additional headset. The selling point is meant to be it's integration... if you want A2DP and a set of stereo earpieces then, this is not the device for you.
I think sometimes people forget that it's not always about having every possible technology in every device, it's about creating diversity in their product line so they can satisfy as many consumers as possible. If you want A2DP then chances are you are not going to want to listen to your music on the, most-likely, crappy sounding attached headset that came with your phone. You will buy another set of more appropriate headphones at which point this phone with it's included headset is no longer the best choice... get a music/media based phone.
I love and respect this blog, and I know the writers are very tech savvy, including Sean. But everyone can miss the point sometimes.

I gotta say I'm getting pretty sick of people just trying to counter everything that comes out. If everyone where like you we'd still be in the stone ages.

No we wouldn't.

I kid. I kid.
I think this is an excellent idea. It was on my wishlist for whatever device Palm needs to come out with to salvage their company. I don't want to be one of the cyborgs that wears one of these earpieces all day long, and I also don't want to carry it around in my pocket. Just want to have the option of using it now and then and otherwise keep it out of the way and un-lost. This is an idea that wants to happen.
