Cooked WinMo 6 ROM verified for PPC-6700, XV6700

Well ladies and gents, it seems the rumored Windows Mobile 6 update for the Sprint PPC-6700 / Verizon XV6700 is looking a little more legit. True to his word, ppcgeeks user Helmi_c showed us that the proof is indeed in the pudding with a goodly pile of pics of what appears to be a real handset running the updated operating system. It should be dropping tomorrow -- though no word of an exact time -- so feel free to hit the gallery we've put together while you wait.

Hello, I got it downloaded. I downloaded both for verizon. I ran the one with the bootloader first and it stopped alittle into it and the one without done the same. Both said there was an error. I done the RECORD+POWER+RESET on both. What am I doing wrong? I normally can get these programs to work!!! When the error comes up it says something about wrong ROM.

I know a lot of people have been waiting for this, took long enough.
@damonwest you will lose everything after flashing, sync your contacts with activesync or use one of the many programs out there for backing up...I prefer PIMBackup.

I flashed my xv6700 today. Works great. Makes my little 6700 a new phone for me. No need to get the 6800 now. Whenever that will come out for vzw.
Daniel @ Aug 31st 2007 11:24AM
totally works. love it. took about 10 minutes to process.
wish the vx6700/vx6800 had built in GPS nav, but that's another story for another time.
if you have a vx6700, you need to spend the time to learn/use/love the ROMs. They make the phone 1000x better.

I just installed this morning on my Sprint PPC-6700. Haven't had a lot of time to play but everything is working fine. I was thinking about getting a new device also but will now keep this one and yes you will lose everything when you flash.

The build was available exactly at 12:00 midnight US EDT (UTC-0400). Several people (myself included) downloaded the rar file and immediately applied with great success.
Helmi_c and the crew at PPCGeeks and xda have done a phenomenal job of improving the ability of HTC's trusty workhorse Apache platform and this is another huge step.
Two things:
1) if you are unsure of what you're doing, READ ALL YOU CAN about this on PPCGeeks and pdaPhoneHome; after reading if you're still confused DON'T APPLY THE ROM (there is always risk of bricking your phone)
2)Make a donation to Helmi_c -- the time and effort in bringing this functionality is significant and those who do this work deserve our support

Very simple process to use the .rar file you need to download a .rar uncompresser then jsut install the program that comes in the file that is uncompresed

Windows Mobile is the WORST software platform I have ever used. It sucks so much. Symbian smartphone is the way to go. I have used 2 WM devices in my life (PocketPC & Smartphone) and both of them perform poorly.
I'm currently using Nokia E61i and the performance is FAR superior than the WM. It never crash, installation always work, menu structure and UI are more user friendly. Getting SW from the net to the phone is easy to do.

Thanks for the info, it was very relevant to the article. -_-
Coconut @ Sep 1st 2007 12:43PM
Who else prefer Symbian over WM?
damonwest @ Sep 3rd 2007 8:48PM
I dont know what type of processer i need to find to read this file,i really am a newbee...can someone please help me?

OMGWTFBBQ!
I love this new build! Is this bundled with software that HTC provides? I had never seen the Today screen like this on other WM6 phones.
It looks like I'm just gonna keep my PPC 6700 for a little while longer.
