So am I supposed to get excited about this? Compared to the N81 it looks like a chunky junky bit of last year's tech, and it's not like they are doing us any favors with the price either. Don't get me wrong, I'm always thrilled to see the US get any sort of phone with better specs then the freebie models you get with a new activation, but considering all the other phones Nokia released today just for Europe, I can't help but feel like the stepson that got a pair of really nice socks for Christmas when my golden child brother got a brand new 360 Elite and a bunch of games.
Nokia used to be such a mover and a shaker in the US market... when did they start treating us like that unwanted stepchild anyway? As far as announcements go, this feels more like being thrown a bone then being taken seriously as valued customer base.
Whilst the N81 may look the nicer of the two, it lacks the out-and-out power of the N95.
It doesn't have the same feature set - it's 384kbps UMTS as opposed to 3.6mbps+ HSDPA, it lacks EDGE, it has a 2mp camera instead of a 5mp camera, the screen is smaller, there's no GPS or included maps app and no TV-out. On top of that, the N95 is lighter and has better battery life. And that's just stuff I can list off the top of my head...
One is a music-oriented phone and the other is a true, high-end smartphone.
