Oh come on, what the hell is that? A Nokia branded iPhone? It was presented during Nokia's GoPlay event this morning as a glimpse of what's coming with Nokia interface design. Oh, and it's due out next year. When pressed during the Q&A about the striking similarity to the little Cupertino device, Anssi Vanjoki -- Nokia's Executive VP & General Manager of Multimedia -- said, "If there is something good in the world then we copy with pride." Well, ok then. See what we mean after the break.
Who cares if its a copy, nobody, only the people who dropped 600 on the iphone, thats who, especially when nokia brings it out and its like 300 with a contract. Not to mention that you won't be tied to at&t and its from a company with actual phone experience.
The difference is that the phone part will actually work right with proper earpiece volume and good ability to get signal. Also it will be a real smartphone, not some locked down device that amounts to a Nano with a phone tacked on as an afterthought.
On a side note though, I do agree that its only a matter of time before someone comes up with a similar product and a much lower price. Lets face it, Jobs and co are making an estimated 53% profit on the iphone!
Dunno for sure, but Helsingin Sanomat (biggest finnish newspaper) had the same news too. And I consider HS pretty reliable. So I'm pretty sure it's the real deal.
you guys have to remember that just b/c the iphone came out before nokia's doesnt mean that nokia copied apple. It takes years of development to design and produce a phone like this. So, the only thing apple did was introduce theirs first. You guys dont really know who copied who b/c we all dont know when each company came up with the idea to produce their respective products. So, please, enough with the "they copied apple" comments cause in the end, us consumers dont know shiet!
Yes, everyone should remember that Apple *always* copies other companies and their products. They *never* innovate. All of their products and designs are just knock-offs of other, better made products. Oh, wait...got them confused with Microsoft...Sorry Apple.
Did any of you ever think to check Nokia's sites? Bother to check their press releases?
No of course not. Why...because YouTube IS the definitve source of reliable information, isn't it?
It was a publicity stunt, and that's it! It doesn't appear in ANY of Nokia's official press releases, and unless they've cut a deal to license it from Apple, you aren't going to see a "Nokia iPhone" in the fourth quarter.
This is 100% legitimate; Nokia showed this at their Go Play event this morning, calling it their 2008 UI. And the room was pretty much looking around going "WTF?" as you guys all are. It not likely to be on any press release because it wasn't tied into a specific product launch today - it was shown prior to the product launches when they were mostly going on about how fabulous they are and how many devices they'd sold and how they prided themselves on their UI.
When pushed on when touchscreen would appear on specifically S60 the main man (Olli-Pekka) said 2008 (but not before Vanjoki pointed out that they already have a touchscreen 'multimedia computer' in the form of the N800).
ok. im sick of this. this is getting way out of control with dumb comments.
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT A TOUCHSCREEN PHONE TO LOOK LIKE?
of course theyre all going to look similar. they are all TOUCHSCREEN phones. Unless someone makes a round or triangle phone, they are all going to look similar. what is there to it? a screen. maybe a very few buttons. thats pretty much it.
dont many flip phones look similar? duh. what is there to really do? the inside top is expected to have a screen. the bottom has a keypad. the outside top has another screen. thats pretty much the formula. why are touchscreens supposed to be different?
maybe the iphone is just a keypadless copy of the n95 design. no wait the n95 is a copy of the cingular htc 8125. no wait that is just a copy of the GIMME A BREAK people
If Nokia can make a comparable device to the iPhone I would go with Nokia simply for the fact that Nokia holds a great reputation in my mind for call quality, user interface, and most importantly -reliability.

Why is it that accessing the same article from a different section brings up a different set of comments?

Ok, that's not just copying, that's nearly a duplicate of the iphone from what I could see on the vid.

I agree, this definitely looks a little fishy.

Choices should come from true innovation, not cowardly immitation. Then again, immitation is the greatest form of flattery.
