iPhoneSIMfree announces availability of iPhone unlock within 3 days

You've seen the hack, now see the FAQ. In it the iPhoneSIMfree free guys answer many of the questions we already got to (Is it restore-resistant? Yes. Which features don't work? Just Visual Voicemail. Does it work with 1.0.2? Yes. Etc.), and a few we've all been eagerly awaiting the answers to:- Can I unlock it before the AT&T registration process?
Yes. - What is the process the end user will go through?
Currently our initial release will require that the end user activate and "jail break" in order to place our app on the phone. (We are working toward a fully automated PC / Mac application to be released shortly after launch). - Do you offer 100% money back guarantee if the software does not work?
The unlock WILL work. We cannot offer any guarantee should Apple, Inc. choose to re-lock the phone after a future update.
- When can I get it?
We are hoping to release in the next 48-72 hours.

Wouldn't it be illegal for them to re-lock it after someone unlocked it? I was under the impression the law was that they can't stop you from unlocking the device, though they don't have to provide you with help to do so either. Re-locking an unlocked device would sure sound like stopping you from unlocking it.

It is VERY likely that Apple will react to the unlock program very quickly once the unlock software is released.
If you have work in the mobility business then you should know Apple has a contract with AT&T for each and every customer sign up a monthly package contract, Apple get a piece of commission. So Apple is not just getting their money from the iPhone itself.

Is it just me or do all these "me too" unlocking schemes that "will be available in mere hours" sound like total crap? Oh yea, I have a scheme too and I will release it in...oh...let's say 3 and a half hours.

Apple does not care about the unlock. I wantts to sell devices, like it sells iPods and makes tons o monay without any handout from an operator. The reason they created the lock are (a) to make the consumer, used to getting discounts for signing up for long contracts, would feel they are wasting this potential when buying a phone, (b) apple wnated someone to develop Job's dream: the visual voicemail... (he problablt gets more voicemail msgs than an average persona nd is sick of listening in to them all).. and (c) because he feared phone buyers would no go to apple stores to buy cell phones, he wanted the device to be in retail stores that people go to when phone-shopping... So they don't care... and they probably put in their contract with at&t that "although they did the best they could to avid, they cannot be liable if hackers did their jobs of hacking it..."...
