HTC announces TyTN II / Kaiser for Europe
Well it's not quite as good as, say, AT&T informing us that we can walk down the block and pick up one this afternoon, but at least HTC has finally given the Kaiser / TyTN II / 8925 an official place in its lineup. Announcing the quad band Windows Mobile 6 handset for European carriers this morning, HTC revealed that Orange, Voda, T-Mobile, and o2 will all get their hands on this Hermes successor, and all the HSDPA, WiFi, and built-n GPS goodness that comes with it. We wish we had more info on plans for a US release, but with TyTN II hitting the EU in October, we suspect it's only a matter of weeks until we can toss the old 8525 into the retired gadgets drawer. hmm... contract's almost up with Sprint for me, and the Kaiser would def tempt me to switch to AT&T if they get exclusivity

setclock - curious...what would be the main reason(s) to choose the Kaiser over Sprint's new Mogul?

I take a lot of photo's on the job with my phone and read that the camera on the kaiser is much better (..sharper/brighter, not just the fact that its 2 vs 3 MP), also love the "leave it on your desk *tilt* view", but what would really decide it for me is if the GPS were carrier independent (like if it used a TomTom program instead of paying sprint X $$ per month for GPS), but somwhow I doubt AT&T will let us have our cake and eat it too

TDG01,
The Mogul is the Hermes's CDMA variant. The Kaiser is the next step up.
setclock,
Don't worry, if AT&T tries to lock in the GPS, the good folks over at xda devs will figure out a way around it.
I just need AT&T to finally announce this.

thanks fyre, that's good to know :)

Actually, the Mogul is the Hermes with some improvements - its thinner, lighter, and faster than the Hermes but doesn't have the tilting screen, GPS, or the 3 megapixel camera.

On one of the blogs I surf, someone had a pre-release AT&T Version with a demo of TomTom's nav-ware on it. I can't imagine they (ATT) would cripple GPS, it is a nice feature to have when you are taking share from Sprint/ Nextel

Richard: so at&t can charge you to use their TeleNav GPS service for $5.99 or $9.99 USD monthly. They've done it to the newer Blackberries already, and the near-final Kaiser shots with at&t screens showed TeleNav also.
