Yahoo Mail adds text messaging support
Among a host of other improvements getting rolled out to Yahoo Mail this week comes this little gem: integrated support for SMS. Already having supported email and chat directly from the Mail client itself, text messaging seems like a logical jump, offering users the capability to fire up a text conversation with little more than a phone number and a few lines of text (remember, keep it brief!). Initially available to folks in the US, Canada, India, and the Philippines, the service should do a fine job of burning through hundreds of your closest friends' text messaging plans -- a solid reason to start upgrading to those unlimited packages that carriers are starting to push, we reckon.

Back when the new GUI was in beta - I decided to "switch back" so that I could use Yahoo! mail on my Playstation. But now that there's new features I cant seem to switch to the new one. Any ideas on why?

so now when I want to send a text message from yahoo mail I dont have to add the @tmomail.net or whichever suffix the carrier has for the person I'm email-texting. I say minor improvement.

maybe i'm just a dumbass, but this doesn't seem to be a universal rollout. i'm in the usa and i can't find this feature anywhere. i only have an option to compose and that option only gives me emails to compose. bah humbug.

Thanks Jane, missed that. Glad someone here is paying attention and not just whining like the rest of us!

The only problem is that their current beta version of Web Mail doesn't work well with Yahoo Messenger. I constantly have Yahoo Instant Messenger falsly tell me I have unread emails when I know I just cleared out all of my messages.

I don't have this option either and I've looked everywhere. Mine just says "Check mail" and "compose" there is no drop down list. Is anyone else as confused as I am?

Boy I know I am! I was kinda excited about this - and have been trying to figure out if I have it on my existing Yahoo acct. (don't use the account all that much any more but don't want to lose it)
