Motorola Q9m official pricing and release date
Motorola's Q9m will ship August 22nd for between $300 and $500 depending on the contract, according to The Boy Genius Report. Thanks to some leaked slides, we now know that the CDMA, Verizon exclusive Windows Mobile 6 running smartphone will go for $349.99 with a two year contract, $399.99 on a 1 year, and $469.99 sans contract. On top of that there will be a $50 mail in rebate offer and a few extra bonuses in the box including a 128 MB miniSD card, a phone sleeve, and a data cable. For some reason for money reasons, Verizon is emphasizing the music playing "V-Cast" abilities of the phone, which seems a little odd on a smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard. Ah well, we'll hold off judgement until it's released in a few days.

Why even bother with a 128MB memory card? Either you'll find the on-board storage adequate or you'll go out and spend $20 on a 1GB+ card.

Verizon used to call this phone the iPhone killer. This is what they were talking about. They retracted the statement but they had planned a Music based PDA phone. Then even made their own UI for it (not mandatory this time). 4gb = microSDHC

VZW did not make their own entire UI for this phone. They made a freakin' optional home screen. Damn dude, put down the haterade for 2 seconds.

I guess you didn't read "Then even made their own UI for it (not mandatory this time)." I guess you missed in the long 4 sentence comment.

Is that right? miniSD not microSD?

Contrary to what was said on the other posts, it's just a new OS, bluetooth 2.0, new keyboard and SDHC slot. processor, camera, memory are all the same.

If there's anything that needed to be upgraded is the processor...The existing Q is so unresponsive and frustrating....
They sell these things as multi-function devices but practically, you have to single-thread what you're doing or risk crashing the phone...

Any idea if the Q9m will have VZ Nav and ESPN, etc. capability?

Has Verizon put these functions on any smartphones yet? When i got my BB 8830 I read there was a plan to put both on it, but so far nothing.

The music angle is simply marketing smartphones to the masses, beyond just techies and working professionals. There's nothing wrong with that really and it's more profitable for them if it gets people on their data plans. The phone doesn't have built-in wifi (although it now supports SDIO wifi cards) so most buyers will likely opt for the data plans.
And just to verify, it's miniSD, not microSD (so you can get a 4GB card for about $50.) It's not as slick as a lot of other smartphones, but I've always liked the Q's slim form factor and the ability to operate it with only one hand. The new keyboard has gotten strong praise in the early hands-on reviews.

Disappointing to say the least. But I do have a Black Moto Q and I have yet to crash it while doing more than one thing at a time. Still when compared to the new GSM Q9 its pretty sad to see what Verizon accepted and what the GSM world received. Moving to AT&T for the REAL Motorola Q9
