Black Nokia N95 with 8GB hits FCC, no American 3G in sight

Yep, it's real. Besides the black case and the plethora of onboard storage, the phone seems largely true to the original, which means the search continues for HSDPA 850 / 1900. Looks hot, doesn't it? No word on whether it'll pick up "Music Edition" branding for launch.

meh, Its not confirmed, but it is possible a harddrive. I am still happy with the american N95 version, sdhc micro cards will rise in storage space.

The color is nice though.

does anyone notice that this version has a bigger screen? it looks bigger, maybe it's an optical illusion, but i noticed the navigation keys around the d-pad (like menu, clear, the softkeys, talk/end) are all squished down significantly from the regular n95

maybe it's a trick of the eyes, but the screen looks much, much bigger

This is the european version with HSDPA that is not available in the US.
Rumors say it will have a VGA display.

What I can tell comparing my own original Nokia N95, the US HSDPA Nokia N95 (Symbian Guru report) and this 8 GB Nokai N95 (FCC report):
- This 8 GB model features a larger screen
- This 8 GB model features the same cover-less camera bezel (with relocated flash) as the US HSDPA version (and probably the same larger capacity battery)
- This 8 GB model DOES NOT feature a micro-SD card slot in addition the the internal 8 GB of flash storage

How much larger's the screen? I am looking @ my N95 & it must be a microscopic change.

W/ 4gb micro SD now & 6 & 8 on the way I don't see myself upgrading any time soon.

Its supposed to have 80 megs of system RAM free at boot up like the US 3G version.
Also expanded battery.

The front buttons do look smaller.

Good Lord! Didn't you people read the "NO AMERICAN 3G" part? There isn't going to be a killer Nokia N95 for the USA, unless you're content with EDGE as your all over the place browsing speed and the obvious feature-killing limitations of EDGE for that device.

If Nokia wanted to put a serious dent in the competition (read: Samsung and HTC), they'd understand how hot a 3G model for the American market would be, BUT, as long as people buy the European version and settle for EDGE, they have no motivation to do so. In fact, they're probably laughing (all the way to the bank) at those who live in the USA and purchase the phone with its limitations. Sure, you've got a great multimedia pocket computer, but it's essentially neutered unless you've got wi-fi everywhere you go, and you don't! Nokia is smart to bank on the resources Americans have to purchase gadgets on a whim and not invest in the changes that would be needed to make it the greatest mobile device for the US market. So, the final tally is: Nokia scores 1 - smart marketing strategy with no internal changes (and associated costs to do so) to the original European model, and American cosumers who score a big fat 0: exposing themselves for the compulsive-driven zombies to have to have the latest and greatest at a price too high for what they get, even if it isn't the greatest in the end for them.

Good lord! Didn't you read the:

The test report and manual both indicate that this model does not have US 3G, which seems to indicate that the model we've seen rumored with US 3G is a different version of the N95.

No, what I read was a previous post indicating that this may only be what was coming to America after all, not 2 versions. The one with 8GB w/o 3G may end up being it and no 3G at all. Again, to my point, if Americans are willing to buy it w/o 3G, what's the motivation to invest in creating one? They're turning their attention to the next marketing iteration, a "music phone".

I'd wager a dollar that I'm going to be right on this one...

you are wrong Randal, the reason nokia would hesitate to redesign a phone with US 3G support is because here people are so accustomed to buying contracts with their phones bringing the prices below 200 dollars that any phone above 200 dollars is 'way to pricey.' Apple broke the mold and proved that typical US consumers would shell out big bucks for a cell phone so they would jump in to cash in to the new market. Nokia would be smart to try to cash in to an iphone/razr amount of coverage VS the elitist US techies for potential buyer audience size.

Randal, I'll bet you A LOT more than a dollar that you are wrong. There are at least 15 sites that you can go to RIGHT NOW that show the official spec sheet from Nokia for the US version with US 3G bands. You should do a little research before starting a post so condescendingly as you did.
