Motorola V9m RAZR 2 coming to Sprint next month?
What, no Verizon exclusivity? Boy Genius appears to have scored some intel suggesting that Sprint will be releasing the V9m RAZR 2 next month, bucking the typical Verizon-first, Sprint-second trend. As with the KRZR before it, it seems that the two carriers will be rocking slightly different color schemes for the phone, with Sprint's taking on a slightly more understated monotone look. Naturally, the V9m will slot in on the upper end of Sprint's dumbphone lineup, featuring Power Vision (read: EV-DO) access and Sprint Music Store compatibility. Any Sprint peeps out there just sorta want to close their eyes and wake up in four weeks or so?

anyone who has access to hofo knows that this phone is coming to most of the major CDMA networks. Verizon, Sprint, Alltel, probably USCC. and it surprises me how surprised this post sounds at someone else getting this phone at the same time as V. need i remind that Alltel started carrying the RAZR V3c a week before verizon. and yes, its not much time, but it still proves your surprise to be irrelevant.

Probably because Sprint was last to carry the v3 series and has not been too much on the forefront when it comes to new phone releases as of late.
For a while, Sprint seemed content to keep releasing new colors of the same Sanyo brick models and let other more modern devices pass them by.

Psh. Who cares? I want the LG LX260 for Sprint NOW!
jpmidura_305 @ Aug 6th 2007 3:43PM
I want one.
Cactus @ Aug 6th 2007 4:50PM
Not bad... but I'd still rather have the Samsung m610 this thing seems to be replacing at the top of the dumbphone hierarchy.
(Anyone know why they stopped selling it? Is it the Qualcomm/Broadcom dispute?)

To Mills:
The fact that other CDMA carriers have gotten phones before VZW is irrelevant. This post is specifically referencing Sprint, a company whose refusal to carry the CDMA version of the RAZR for almost two years cost them many customers, and whose failure to keep apace with VZW's handset selection continues to hurt them. In recent memory, Sprint has failed to beat VZW to the punch on:
-Treo 700W
-MOTOKRZR K1m
-Blackberry 8830
-Motorola Q
If you're a Sprint customer, it sucks to see VZW getting all the cool exclusives while Sprint sits by the wayside, so an article like this on the RAZR2 coming to Sprint sooner rather than later is definitely newsworthy. It's not "irrelevant" at all.

No, it didn't cost them customers. I got a red raz for the wife. 2 months afterwards, it's been sent back to MOTO 3 times, same issue. I don't fault sprint for carrying the POS phone, maybe they knew something that the others didn't and after 2 years, hoped moto fixed all the bugs. I yawn at this new phone. It wouldn't make me drop my service with one carrier to jump ship to another. It's just a phone, just like the iPhone. Doesn't make my calls sound better, doesn't get calls better, then most other phones out there.. it's just hyped up more. Message to Sprint/Moto.. don't get cault up in the hype.. just produce and sell phones that WORK and don't BREAK 2 months into use.. and MOTO.. get some repair techs that can read english and fix phones the 1st time in the shop.. Till then.. no more moto for this guy.. I'll stick with Sanyo, LG and Samsung (in that order) thank you very much..

They only one that really hurt Sprint was the one for the RAZR but aside from that I don't believe the other exclusivity deals last long enough to cause any major impact. I mean what is a month to 3 months exclusive? Hardly enough. Verizon got 700w well Sprint got 700wx which was better and that exclusivity lasted a bit. Motorola Q? No biggie and neither was the KRZR. Sprint had the SLVR before Verizon. Also Sprint got the 755p before Verizon and the 8830 was how barely a month. Sprint got the 6700 first and it got the 6800 first as well. It's pretty equally balanced if you ask me.
If you guys knew all the other goodies that are coming to Sprint. I'll tease, two new Blackbery's (which I think will surprise people) two new phones from HTC and two new Treo's. Not to mention some of the ones that are already known like the V9m, LX260, M520, ROKR Z6m and more.

Sprint has a lot of other huge issues that go beyond a missing handset or two.
They have a decent network, but focus so much on the things that only matter to a small minority of wireless customers that they are losing out on market share to their much larger rivals.
They brag about REV A, QChat, and Wimax, but you still can't change an ESN online and are forced to sit through a 45 minute hold time when calling customer care in the Philippines. They are the true epitomy of a kill-joy service.
periks19 @ Aug 6th 2007 11:10PM
is the blackberry pearl one of them I would defineteley buy that one if it comes to sprint
Jer @ Aug 7th 2007 3:00PM
They'll probably get it around the same time as Alltel, 9/6.

I posted this 8-2-07 on another blog but thought it

I emailed Motorola and this is the response I received:
