In the wake of a
Motorola profit free fall the past few quarters, Samsung has finally managed to nab Moto's spot to take the number two position in global handset market share behind the perennial
numero uno, Nokia. Though the victory comes by the slimmest of margins -- 37.4 million handsets shipped in Q2 compared to Moto's estimate of 35 to 36 million -- the two companies are clearly moving in opposite directions right now, with Samsung seeing a 4 percent boost in revenue over the same period last year. Samsung attributes its success to an ever-expanding
Ultra Edition line and increased volume in its entry-level lineup, something Motorola has been looking for (but apparently hasn't found) with its innovative
MOTOFONE. Find yourself looking over your shoulder, Nokia?

Ive tried to be loyal to moto. my biggest gripe has been, that they forget about americans, shamefull for an american company. they do make alot of good phones, just not available to us, and if you purchase one from the asian market, they will not honer the warranty as ive learned the hard way(ebay shoppers beware)The selections on the u.s.moto store site are pathetic compared to the other countries. I just got off the phone with the u.s. moto store, and they claim they have been listining. they claim that soon, all product will be available on the u.s. store with u.s. warranties unlocked and unbranded and that they have heard the,(stop treating americans like the bastard step children of the world complaint by hundreds of thousands of callers and emails)They claimed that products such as the razr2 v8 and rokr z6 would be availe to us on the u.s. site by the end of july to mid august, with u.s. specs and warranties and that others would follow. I wont hold my breath, but I hope its true.
