Samsung SCH-i760 spied on Verizon's site
The handset formerly known as I can do it all, is now up on Verizon's -- in some half-hidden way -- site. Of course, we're jumping the gun on this one -- as we always do -- as the only thing this little bit of info brings is confirmation for the posts we have put up in the past. We're expecting more details soonish on this hot little -- though arguably ugly -- Windows Mobile 6 slider, and will throw em up just as soon as we get something useful, like a date and price.

im hoping for a late july as per a few sources at hofo and pdaphoneome have mentioned...but id love to hear from HTC kid or Roc
kopas @ Jul 12th 2007 2:17PM
Most of the stuff I've read lately says Verizon's new PDAs aren't going to see Q3. But I'll still be on the lookout the next couple weeks, just in case.

Now we just need to figure out the URL for the 6800! I have tried a variety of naming conventions, but have yet to hit the motherlode!

Now we just need to figure out the URL for the 6800! I have tried several different combinations for the naming convention, but have yet to hit "the motherlode"....!
I have a feeling the flash file is already out there for the 6800 - it's just hidden.
How sweet it would be to figure out that URL and see the device in 360 view!
murph @ Jul 12th 2007 3:04PM
please hurry VZW, my i730 has been running like crap lately. it's almost time to play "will it blend" with the i730.
eleazar123 @ Jul 12th 2007 3:21PM
Ugly? I think this phone looks sweet! It might not be as pretty as the iphone, but at least it has more functionality! I absolutely can't wait till this phone is released.
punt @ Jul 12th 2007 4:15PM
I wholeheartedly agree. I've been holding out for the 6800, but the on-surface numerical keypad makes this a bit more attractive. The comparison over at PDAdb.net is pretty interesting:

I sent this to you guys on monday, and now you finally post it. Talk about slow...
Gary @ Jul 12th 2007 3:41PM
Think about this--that phone and then the interface being worked on here:

Maybe I CAN have my iPhone on Verizon!! :)
eleazar123 @ Jul 12th 2007 6:06PM
Very cool, thanks for the link!
flamer's grill @ Jul 12th 2007 3:42PM
Need a size and spec comparison vs the XV6800/Mogul. I sorta like the number pad on the face of the device, but I dunno if I like the placement of the Talk/End buttons.
But really, what would put this above the 6800/Mogul in terms of desirability?
Shawn Hunt @ Jul 12th 2007 3:56PM
Besides the number pad, other ways the i760 is better than the Mogul:
-Build quality is much better on samsung phones, people have been complaining about the cheap battery covers on the Mogul and some peoples keyboards are already loose from sliding it in and out.
-Samsung Pda's are known for having good reception
-The BT stack on the Mogul is terrible. From looking at all the forums, about half the people have noted that their BT headset is not working at all.
-On the i760, you can use voice command over BT
In the end, the real kicker for me is the phone reception (need to have a working phone first) and the number pad.
Preston @ Jul 12th 2007 7:20PM
How the hell do you know that the i760 will work better with Voice Command over BT? It didn't even work properly on the i730, and its pretty obvious that it's a WM6P issue.
G Raph @ Jul 12th 2007 7:25PM
The moderator at pdaphonehome got a chance to play with one earlier and mentioned it.
SuCrAm @ Jul 12th 2007 4:08PM
what website?
Brian @ Jul 12th 2007 4:15PM
The front keypad seems to be its biggest selling point. Usability-wise, touchscreen keypads aren't as good as actual tactile keypads.
Latest rumors put it at late July/Early August release. Apparently VZW is trying to position this as one of their iPhone alternatives (note: I don't think anyone thinks this would be an iPhone killer). My contract is over in a month, so I'm waiting to use my NE2 on this phone.
There's a huge release/rumor thread on pdaphonehome.com about this but their forums are currently down.
Note to Gary: Your app launchers look killer. I've been thinking about creating a launcher that acts like the HTC-Touch but I'd be interested in testing yours when I get this phone!
Gary @ Jul 12th 2007 4:28PM
Just so I don't worsen the bad karma I've accumulated in life (!)--All I did was LINK to the site--god knows you don't want me programming your interface. I think Jason's project is going to be WELL received.
TDG01 @ Jul 12th 2007 5:18PM
my 6700 is so old and slow....i can barely stand to use it anymore....i'll take whatever comes first.....either this SCH-i760 or the 6800....but i prefer the sammy....
my i730 had this horrible problem of not managing the data and voice channels properly...that was in the early days of the i730.....i had to quickly bail because i couldn't take it anymore, so i never hung around to see if they every fixed it....i just hope this SCH-i760 is beyond all that nonsense....
TDG01 @ Jul 12th 2007 5:37PM
Interesting comparison @ PDAdb.net
Sammy's a little lighter and just s smidge chunkier
6800 has 256MB ROM, SCH-i760 has only 125MB
6800 has 2MP camera, SCH-i70 has 1.3MP
statistically the CPUs seem close enough, but i wonder how performance/responsiveness is going to be when flipping through apps and dealing with high memory utilization....frankly, for me, that's the #1 factor....never fails when you're in a hurry that you're trying to pull something up, or end a call, or whatever that my 6700 just waddles along, coming up 5-10 seconds behind....drives me nuts.....
i have no interest in the iphone, but if there's any envy at all, it's how responsive the platform appears to be....
Anthony @ Jul 12th 2007 6:41PM
What do you guys think is the superior phone? This or the HTC Kaiser? I will be getting one of the two.
I am on VZW right now and currently qualify for NE2 but I would leave to buy an unlocked kaiser and use it on ATT. But I am willing to wait for the sch i760 if it comes out in a reasonable time.
I spoke with a VZW rep yesterday and he told me he heard rumors about this phone launching in Sept.
TDG01 @ Jul 12th 2007 7:11PM
Anthony.....The Kaiser looks awesome, but I think it'll be a long while before we have any shot of seeing it...from what I understand that'll be the successor to the Titan/6800....it'll also likely launch on a GSM network first.
I hope it doesn't take till Sept for this phone.....it's hard to find a rep that really has accurate info.
elgee02 @ Jul 12th 2007 6:56PM
This is going to have EV-DO Rev. A, woohoo!!
Preston @ Jul 12th 2007 7:20PM
SOrry...no Rev A for i760 killer. Check the FCC release...Rev 0 only.
TDG01 @ Jul 12th 2007 7:39PM
I'm definately annoyed about it not having Rev A, and there's no excuse....it should have it.....but for the type of mobile computing I do, I'm OK with 1x...beets the tar out of EDGE....
I wonder if there's any chance it has the radio and will be an upgrade later.....
elgee02 @ Jul 12th 2007 7:41PM
I was told by someone higher up in VZW... now I am confused... we will see.
Ben @ Jul 12th 2007 9:30PM
16th. thats all I'm gonna say.
VZWguy @ Jul 13th 2007 12:31AM
if it's EVDo it has rev A since ALL of verizon has switched over to revA now. and why would they launch a non revA phone in this day and age especially after mkaing fun of cingular for the edge crap on the iPhone.
and look for it to hit the site next week...stores much later.
brad @ Jul 13th 2007 8:56AM
just becuase it has EVDO doesnt mean its REV A, rev a is a modication to the radio and everything that uses evdo doesnt get a speed bump to rev A unless it has the hardware. The previous information that was leaked did not say it would have REV A but rumors are it was delayed to have REV A
tdg01 @ Jul 13th 2007 9:46AM
I'm down with next week.....and the RevA makes total sense....
rajeev @ Jul 13th 2007 1:26AM
i want the htc libra for vzw..when is that gonna happen???
C@rL0$ @ Jul 13th 2007 5:54PM
Does any one know if the i760 support the "OBEX" Bluetooth profile? Because I hear the xv6800 doesn't.
C@rL0$ @ Jul 13th 2007 5:57PM
Also what are people's opinions on the i760 and the xv6800? Which one is better?
sam w @ Jul 13th 2007 6:47PM

TDG01 @ Jul 13th 2007 7:35PM
Interesting...VZW took the page down.....hopefully they're getting ready for launch.....
HTC Kid @ Jul 13th 2007 8:00PM
Geez guys I told you everything on this device and the 6800 titan but noooo don't believe me. Release dates are hard to manage as the company keeps pushing them out and out. To address a few things: All VZW PDA's have OBEX.... every. single. one. On WM5 it was called "Beam" trust me, its there. The device is Rev A upgradeable. I have not gotten the ability to actually test the speeds tethered so I can't tell you if it will be launched that way. It will be launched soon. And as for the other thing the "iPhone" Alternative, vzw now has its reps pitching existing devices against the iPhone so they consider everything an iPhone alternative. Alright, there's my little blurb. Mike can get a hold of me if need be. And probably Sean as well as I posted here.
C@rL0$ @ Jul 13th 2007 8:31PM
I asked about the "OBEX" Bluetooth profile because on the Verizon website the xv6700 does not support it and I want to find out if the xv6800 will support it because it wasn't specified based on the improvements. If the i760 has it then I would buy it, but if the xv6800 I would wait for that one. So far I havent heard anything about it.
TDG01 @ Jul 13th 2007 8:11PM
I can't speak for these specfically, but having owned both the i730 & the 6700, i liked the build quality of the samsung...the slide was killer.... however i got the samsung the very first day it was available and the software was buggy as hell.....so i ditched it...
the 6700 has been ok....love the keyboard...proc is slow and you can never get the call volume loud enough....
personally i'm favoring the Samsung....better reputation for quality hardware and supposedly the BT stack on the mogul has been a nightmare...
flamer\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s grill @ Jul 13th 2007 11:07PM
Just so you know, if you install a custom ROM from a site like ppcgeeks.com, a lot of the problems like low volume and laggy interface go away. Out of the box, the 6700 is servicable at best, but with one of these custom ROMs it becomes one of the best phones on the market.
Stonesand @ Jul 14th 2007 12:28PM
Just to muddy the waters a little more, this page lists a release date along side the Treo 755p as September 4th:
http://www.palminfocenter.com/news/8918/verizon-treo-755p-in-september/
TDG01 @ Jul 14th 2007 5:21PM
That sucks....I was looking forward to this coming week....on that doc, the 6800 shows Sept too....
TDG01 @ Jul 14th 2007 5:29PM
Thanks flamer\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s grill.....I'll check it out....
I realize these ROMs and all kinds of mods are out there....It's just so infuriating that these carriers can't get it right...my exasperation with the carriers is beyond words....
phil gilchrist @ Jul 16th 2007 9:53PM
when is this coming out???
TDG01 @ Jul 17th 2007 7:51PM

Stonesand @ Jul 24th 2007 1:52PM
Can anyone confirm whether this has a stylus or not? So many different web sites say one or the other, that I'm lost. I really want it to have a stylus...
Joseph @ Jul 24th 2007 7:49PM
On this video that I saw a while back it has a stylus, so unless Samsung decides to change this it will have one.

I just got back from the verizon store and spoke with the manager there. He said they had all of the accessories for the sch-i760 in and he told me indirectly that it would be coming out on the 15th of this month. Hope he was telling the truth.
Derek @ Oct 18th 2007 11:51PM
I called verizon twice and both times they would allow me to order the phone. I still have to think about it though because I am only eligible to buy it for the full retail price of $519.
