iPhone sells out faster than an 80's rock star
Unless you live in or near Tigard, Oregon or Pittsburgh PA, chances are you'll be out of luck this morning if you're jonesin' for that quick retail fix of consumer crack called the iPhone -- Apple's retail locator lists the iPhone as unavailable for the rest of the nation. Sales have been so brisk in the first week that AT&T claims to have "sold more iPhones than in the first month of any other wireless phone AT&T ever offered. That's how good it's been." However, neither Apple nor AT&T have released any figures. Anecdotal evidence from readers who ordered on-line or at AT&T stores suggests that a replenishment might come as soon as Friday -- the date many hopefuls were told they'd receive shipment. Based on previous Analyst calculations, we're guessing that Apple has crossed the 1M unit mark. A milestone which surely garners some kind of Apple announcement. Oh, hey Apple, how 'bout clearing up all those rumors in Europe while you're at it? K, thanks.
Update: waitingforiphone claims to have a leaked memo from ATT Mobility claiming more than 1 million iPhone activations since launch.

"iPhone sells out faster than an 80's rock star"
I nominate that as headline of the year!

Well, just because you live in Tigard and there are iPhones here doesn't mean they're affordable. For me, they definitely live up to the hype. After playing with it at the Apple store for a few minutes (okay, so maybe it was an hour...), I even mastered the keyboard. Good luck fellow Oregonians!

fyi Tigard is surburban mall hell, the people that go there can afford to throw money away, or at least on their credit card...

Over a million suckers ;)
It's a great device -- but -- eventually the honeymoon will be over. As users begin to realize just how much it's all costing them; as they begin to need battery replacements and have to cough up another $80, and ship their iPhone somewhere to have it done. Before any of that happens though, I think a lot of iPhone purchasers are going to really wish they had Bluetooth stereo functionality.
It's all good though, if anything, this is going to spur so much interest in mobile devices that consumers will soon realize there's a whole lot of choice out there, including the iPhone. Can't wait to see all the new gizmos coming to market over the next year or so...
Sure will be interesting to see how the smartphone market moves forward now,

That is so crazy. I did not want to wait around in line so I waited. I went on vacation and as I was traveling I would call and check AT&T stores and check the Apple web site. On July 4th Pittsburgh, Shadycrest, showed availability and so I stopped into the store and picked up an 8GB iPhone, no waiting!

It's "shadySIDE" Pittsburgh, just to be super anal. Also where I bought mine on day 1. If anyone wants to fly in from out of state to get one, lemme know, my couch is open, maybe.

*** Real World Experience - Replenishment Update***
My local AT&T store sold out on Friday (June 29th). I went in on June 30th and ordered one from my local AT&T store. It was shipped to FedEx yesterday and should be arriving tomorrow.
