Perhaps demonstrating how wide the rift between T-Mobile Europe and T-Mobile USA really is, Germany's Rheinische Post is reporting that Deutsche Telekom will announce tomorrow that its carrier unit
will exclusively offer the
iPhone in Germany. Details on the partnership are slim at best, but the two most important nuggets of information seem to be known: November 1 for €450 (about $612), which we assume is for the 8GB unit. Of course, the next biggest question is whether this'll be an EDGE or 3G unit -- and if it's 3G, can we please get an HSDPA
Enabler for $1.99? No?

I am being selfish but if Europe gets the 3G iPhone, I am going to be so pissed that I may have to return my iPhone and protest!!!

I would also return mine. Having to go back to EDGE for this was almost a deal breaker. Then to find out that Europe is about to get a 3G version would be the final straw.

I guess 450 euro will get you the 4gb version.
The 30 gb iPod sets you back 269 euros over there (that's $366 instead of the $249 you guys pay).

would this european t-mobile locked iphone worked here in the us with t-mobila usa?
Jamar @ Jul 4th 2007 8:26AM
Yep, it will, if they toss the activation scheme. T-Mobile's unique system of SIMlocking allows Euro T-Mobile phones to work with T-Mobile USA SIMs. This also works vice-versa, so it's handy to remember if you're going to Europe.

does anyone know if the apple employees all got "locked" iphones or "unlocked" versions?
C Nguyen @ Jul 4th 2007 12:28PM
azncrew: the phone may work on TMobile USA's network, but not the 3G. TMobile USA will be deploying its own 3G network, but it will be a totally different frequency than what is available right now and current phones that do not support this new standard will not be able to utilize the yet-to-be-released TMobile USA 3G network.
