Philadelphia mayor caught camping for an iPhone
If we ran the world Philadelphia, it's highly unlikely that we'd camp out in the dismal rain for an iPhone like all those "normal citizens," but we've got to give props to John F. Street for roughin' like the rest of us. Apparently, Mr. Street set up shop earlier this morning and made up his mind to brave the inclement weather in order to be one of the first to snag an iPhone. Currently, he's waiting patiently along Ranstead St. at 16th St. in Center City to be third in line to purchase an iPhone from the AT&T store, and while we're sure such an influential character could have just paid someone off to do the waiting for him, the reward will be that much sweeter when 6:01PM rolls around.
Update: Looks like the media descended on the mayor and the dude took off about an hour ago! Looks like someone else has his spot in line (now word on whether he's waiting for the mayor), but we'll have an update in our lineblog shortly.

Philadelphia currently has one of the highest murder rates in the country. What is our dead beat mayor doing? Sitting in line for an iPhone. Doesn't have minions that can do this for him? Fucking asshole.

Ben's got it right. In case his post is removed for... "dirty words", here's the crux of it:
"Philadelphia currently has one of the highest murder rates in the country. What is our dead beat mayor doing? Sitting in line for an iPhone."
Here's a mayor that had the FBI bug his office, has seen half his staff go to jail, has been implicated by just about everyone that WENT to jail with being complacent if not outright a participant in criminal activities, etc. Philadelphia grew by -60k people last year. We're in a housing crisis - million dollar condos everywhere, and 200+ murders already keeping people out of the city.
If you want to give Street props for anything, how about landing himself a cushy job, getting paid by my taxes, averting criminal charges (which I still don't understand) and having the balls to be out waiting for a damn iPhone.
When I first woke up this morning and saw that he was out there, naturally I assumed that he had solved the murder crisis, along with the looming public transportation crisis, budget problem, and the city's numerous other problems. Then I read the rest of the news, and realized that he's just a jerk.

No he's not a jerk, he's a fucking asshole! You forgot the part where he tried to get his brother and wife no bid contracts at the airport, even though they don't have the requisite experience.
Then his brother tried to run for office (2x) even though he doesn't live in Philadelphia (kind of illegal)!
Street would be in jail now if his lackey fund raiser didn't die before he went on trial.
Also when Rendell left office he had a $100 million in budget surplus, guess what in the 7 years Street has been there, he blew that into a deficit.
But you are right, the worse thing about this guy is that Philly's murder rate is 5x the rate of NYC, per capita. And Street originally represented the most oppressed sections of the city - everyone had hope he would do something when he became mayor. He bided his time, planned well and got a cherry spot in line for the iPhone! Good job Mayor!

If youre supposed to be at the helm of your ship when it's crumbling snd sinking, you probably shouldnt be grabbing a margarita, a good book and looking for a deck chair in the sun.
