Nintendo to partner with Apple for iPhone gaming?
With under a week to go until the iPhone launches, all bets are officially off. Of course, we'd still risk the farm (okay, at least the barn) that this rumor will remain just that, but an "anonymous source" has reportedly suggested that Nintendo could end up partnering with Apple for iPhone gaming. Interestingly enough, it was stated that any content pushed out for the iPhone would "cater to older audiences," which enables us to take all of this very lightly considering the Big N's obsession with less-than-mature titles. Additionally, these "exclusives" would unsurprisingly be released via iTunes for a whopping $29 apiece, but controlling Mario without a trademark D-pad could prove difficult. Frankly, we're hardly buying into this one just yet, but it's not like Apple hasn't done the impossible before.

hmmm... $800 for the phone, $59-$99 for the "iphone" internet plan, $.099 per ringtone (no mp3 ringtones), and $29 Nintendo retro games huh? I think steve jobs is the only one who will be able to afford this thing once its released.

The phone starts at $500, not $800. The data plan is $20 on top of your voice plan. No ringtone information is known at this time. Duck is straining for some complaining!
Anyway, this rumor is obviously based on the fact that the Nintendo DS and iPhone have similar interfaces and thus some DS games would be "easy" to port. I think the mature games they refer to are the Nintendogs/Brain age stuff which has proven successful for the casual/older gaming crowd, not the "mario" stuff.

Good luck playing Super Mario with a joystick! LOL
Thats why there are no games preloaded

I doubt this will happen. Nintendo's ds already has a touch screen, they wouldn't release games for another handheld device, regardless of the maturity of the games.

To move Mario, you gotta flick your finger in the direction you want him to go. To make Mario bigger, instead of mushrooms, you "unpinch" him. lol

I doubt Nintendo would sell out like that.
Randy @ Jun 28th 2007 8:31AM
I have to agree w/ you there. Although, it's not so much as "not Selling out" as much as Nintendo behaving like apple in the sense that they really don't bother with platforms other than its own.

Ya considering nintendo has never produced software for any other console than its own and the fact that they said iphone can't have real apps (ones downloaded onto the phone, accessible without a wifi connection) and games are apps I call BS on this 1

Less then a week? It comes out in two days...

Approx $648.42 after taxes in Los Angeles.
Duck is correct about ringtones.
He is also correct about price plans. $20 is only for existing customers.
I don't think this came about based on the DS. The obvious difference is the "D"ual "S"creen that the DS has and the iPhone doesn't.
My guess is that it would be older games rather than DS games. Similar to the Virtual Console on Wii. ...if this is even to be believed.
