New iPhone vid demystifies the "keyboard"
In perhaps a move to stave off some rumblings of disappointment that typing on Apple's soon-to-be ubiquitous new device may be a little less "intuitive" than they had hoped, the company has added a new video into its iPhone movie catalogue detailing the "correct" operation of the phone's virtual keyboard. Interestingly, the video outlines the use of a heretofore unseen feature -- the magnifying glass -- which allows you to reposition your cursor while typing. Check the link for a whole bunch of one-finger typing.

The thing is, I'm a little nervous about the keypad still. This isn't what I wanted to see.
Instead of telling me you won't make that many mistakes, they tell me "You will make TONS, and don't even try typing with two thumbs for atleast a week. But when you make typos, the iPhone will try to fix it."
I'm not sure I feel comfortable having the iPhone fix all my typos when sending an email to my boss.
Not sure I like the "sent from my iPhone" signature either.

I agree. I'd love to see some examples of a person walking down the street typing two-handed with as much ease (or more, according to Apple) as the Treo and Blackberrys give. Although that might be hard to choreograph. I think most people would be too afraid to look away (since you can't due to the lack of tactile-ness of the keys). Imagine being the first person to drop your new $600 phone on the pavement.

I think you can be 99.9999% certain that you'll be able to edit the signature.

I want to cancel my 3 phone family plan with Sprint to get the iphone .. any suggestions on getting out of my contract without penalty?

Any good at faking your own death?

Go back in time and don't sign the contract.
Randy @ Jun 27th 2007 9:08PM
Oh, Easy. Say you moved (or will move) somewhere where sprint doesn't offer service. Then, be prepared to offer some kind proof. (Exercise left to the reader what proof could be.)

yeah, tell them you died.

That two-thumb typing demo at the end was impressive but I'll believe it when I see an non-Apple employee doing it on a non-floating iPhone

Very impressive. I've stated numerous times to ppl that I'm not getting the iPhone b/c of the price tag, but I think I'm starting to come around....
