I have a A1200. With the new firmware, it has EDGE now. It is not possible to place a UMTS/HSPDA firmware on the existing models because UMTS/HSDPA requires newer hardware. The best thing about this is that it runs Linux. And because of this, people have ported many applications for the cell phone. There's an NES emulator that's been ported. DOSBOX has been ported which allows old DOS applications to run (even Windows 3.11). My favorite is the mplayer port that allows xvid,320x240 at 30fps. It replaced my iriver clix. The only reason why i don't use it is the lack of 3G.
But this is great news. This is the ONLY touchscreen flip phone available in the market that's not hideously ugly.
