Just to skip to the next song, you have to look at the thing to see where to put your finger since there's no button to feel. To hang up a phone call, the same. And a number of these operations look like they'll require two hands given the placement of controls on the screen. So as boner-making as this thing is, I think thos are actually kind of drawbacks. I think of myself jogging or driving and just hitting the Next button on my iPod without looking when I skip songs. I think about hanging up a call by either closing a clamshell without looking or hitting the hangup button without looking. Guess we'll be seeing an uptick in iPhone related car accidents. Seriously, this thing really requires you to look at it for everything but volume adjustment. Since there is empty real estate to the left and right of the home button, I think they could put a couple of variable-function hardware buttons to either side of it. I think it would increase the thing's utility. When was the first portable device released taht could do those things? If your answer isn't 2007 then yes it is obvious that their are 1,000s of other portable devices that can do exactly what the IPhone will do. How about devices that can open email, make phone calls, play music and video files? It's been done to death.

Don't confuse a new user interface with new functionality. There is nothing new here. There are phones that will do live TV. There are phones that will support unlimited music and video formats. There are phones that will handle office files much better, and will handle email much better. Uhhh boy. For the sake of this response I will dismiss the your insinuating that I'm sick.

Regarding your point about the N95???? I've seen it. I've used it. A colleague of mine has one. The idea and the Specs are HOT! That thing would have been my next foray into a convergent device, even if I had to ditch MS WM6 to get it. However, I was not impressed when I used it. I don't like the form factor, the sliding stuff was not solid. The thickness of the thing was an issue. Is seemed sluggish when I used it. As thick as it is it was not balanced in the weight feeling and just felt like it would explode in a thousand pieces if dropped. I wasn't impressed with the screen size. My colleague (who owns it) is constantly complaining about the battery life, and it locks up occasionally when he's doing his Web browsing. I didn't hate the U.I. but I wasn't enamored, intrigued, or even curious either.

Now with that said..... if it were not for the iphone I probably would have settled for the thing or something else. The sluggish effect and Battery life was a problem, and you have to like the way something feels and looks and the N95 missed the mark as it was probably just targeting the "who's who" in specs.

That is just my two cents. I understand the point your attempting to make.... and that's fine.... for you.... I guess. I am un-swayed and so I will buy the iphone now. I will also buy the Meizu M8 or Mini-One, or M8v.... or whatever it will be called if it doesn't go the way of vapor! Now I have a questions for you. If you have an N95 and your so impressed by it, why even consider.....ehhhh hmmmm... I mean read and post about the iphone?
Can you make a point, or present facts without degrading to the point where you resort to throwing mud.... and missing your target?

Cheers Mate,

Jon H.

Comments on Apple takes you on an iPhone guided tour

@Jon H.
Yo, don't take my slanderous comments personally, I was just joking; we're cool!

Most obviously, most of us--what the hell, none of us have used the iPhone yet, thus all comparisons that we can makle between the iPhone and other devices are based on specs released and that creepy little video. I will definately agree with you, that phone does look HOTT. In fact, I have every intention of getting one as I have no big gripes with Apple (besides their Nazi regulation of everything Apple, but hey, the purpose of business, ultimately, is to make money), but spec wise you have to agree it is lacking. You said the n95 would lock up some, given it's performance, I would imagine that very forgiven due to its performance otherwise. Also, I will agree that the iPhone is revolutionary thus far causing many manufacturers to look into the "touchscreen all the way" interface, but to say it is the best multifunction device, I say no cigar. I mean the on screen touch key pad is a big minus already. Pair it up with a QWERTY keypad, GPS, some 3G love, and a better photographic department then I'd be (closer to being) on your side.

derX

Comments on Apple takes you on an iPhone guided tour

@johnnybigapples,

Thanks for the well wishes... So what there is a cancellation fee, the point is that I will put the iphone threw its paces and go from there. However, I will tell you this... It is true I have not seen or held or worked the darn thing but there has been more footage and information concerning this device in action and static than any other product. Forgive me if my positive nod toward Apple for this device is premature.... still, based on what I have seen the device will have to un-convince me.

Sincerly,

Never stuck with a "piece of crap like that"

Jon H.

Comments on Apple takes you on an iPhone guided tour

@derX,

I'm with ya all the way! You spoke facts and the facts is that we have not used the darn thing yet and so we don't know for sure. Yeah man I agree the darn thing is HOTT to look at. Apple makes products that are aesthetically pleasing. I also have to agree with you that the iphone is lacking big time in the spec department. I have a Samsung Sync as my work Mobile phone and it is Quad Band, UMTS, EDGE, and HSDPA. I use it to tether to my MacBook Pro that I bought in February (My first Apple computer). I dunno if I will be able to tether my iphone to the Macbook Pro just the same. Considering the fact that the thing is only Edge, would I even want to? It is a step backward from my Samsung Sync! DARN! So yeah man I agree with you. It is a "wait and see" kind of situation.

Cheers to ya DerX!

Jon H.

Comments on Apple takes you on an iPhone guided tour

How many of the readers on this page actually keep their phones for an entire 2 years.....i'm guessing not too many.
