Apple prepping a cheaper iPhone? Probably.
Yeah, don't pretend like you didn't see this one coming. Completely unsubstantiated "market sources" rumors are making the rounds that Apple is already prepping a lower cost iPhone variant. Warning: completely mundane "analysis" follows. According to American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu, "Apple needs to round out its iPhone product line at lower price points (similar to iPod) if it expects to replicate the success of its iPod with sales of 100 million units." Shaw Wu has been right on a couple Apple predictions in the past, but it doesn't take much to guess that Apple is currently at work on, or at least thinking about, a second generation of iPhone. Price drops also seem inevitable, and Shaw's predictions hold few surprises. He claims to have heard of "lower cost iPhone prototypes for release at unspecified future dates" from his sources, and maybe he has, but we're not going to start proclaiming Apple's dominion over all form factors and price points (as entertainingly conceptualized above) just yet.

my friend and i discussed this when the iphone many years back, and he made a great speculation that the iphone shuffle would be a phone in which you press the call button and it calls a contact at random.

I want to buy the iphone as soon as it comes out, but I know I will regret it, not because of the phone (I love it), but because of the price drops and different variations.

The current iPhone has been dubbed the Jesus phone, so I guess the less expensive model will be called the Baby Jesus.
I darn sure don't want my top-of-the-line iPhone being mistaken for it's cheaper counterpart. That iPhone Shuffle sure is cute, but the battery talk time must be next to nothing.

Haha oh god... That iPhone Shuffle is just hilarious.
Feeling down? Press the button to all a random contact!

The shuffle IS too funny.
2nd generation iPhone: Obviously already under development. If not 3rd! Even Apple's most vocal detractors wouldn't doubt this. It's all about keeping ahead for Apple.
Lower price points: Yes over time, unless the subsequent gen's capabilities warrant keeping the premium price, such as greatly increased memory capacity, allowing for what I believe should be one of Apple's ultimate goals; truly being able to load and run dektop class applications on a phone sized device. If anyone can work the gui magic that something like that would require, I would bet on Apple to be the leading contender. My timeframe guess? Less than 8 years, if battery, memory, connectivity and display technology keep making the gains they have in the last 8.

Well, I'm pretty sure at some point Apple Inc. has to come up with a cheaper plan than the current one. Targeted areas are human, with different levels and certainly with different earnings. So for sure they should have another plan for low class personnel if they want to see everyone using the iPhone..

I think AT&T will offer iPhone at a discount rate for people who would sign a long contract with them. And I do not think there will be any thing like iPhone shuffle, just imagage how could iPhone still attract people when it does not have multi-touch screen and other cool functions

Well, you figure when the iPod first came out, it was kind of expensive. Not as much as the other HD based units, but still more than the much smaller capacity flash based ones like the good 'old Diamond Rio.
