Looking for a Windows Mobile 6 Standard device with a slide-out QWERTY doohickey plus a dedicated numeric keypad? The
Vox is pretty much the only game in town -- and we're delighted to report that that's not a bad thing at all. Known as the S710 under HTC's own branding, the set rocks a 2 megapixel cam, Bluetooth, quadband GSM with EDGE data, 128MB of ROM, 64MB of RAM, a microSD slot, and WiFi. The software's standard fare (and reasonably fast in light of the pokey 201MHz OMAP850), but as is often the case with HTC kit, the hardware's where this thing really stands out. Not only were we super impressed by how rock-solid the S710 felt, but considering the immense value of the QWERTY keyboard, you sacrifice very little in size or weight. In fact, looking at the phone straight on from the front, you can't even tell that it's anything but a rather ordinary looking candybar. It's a little thicker, sure, but well worth the price of admission, even if only for the occasional email-based rant. Check out some S710 poses (tasteful, we promise) in the gallery!

Thanks for the great pics, but as with many pics on the site can you help us out by adding some perspective by placing the device next to standard sized items, like a credit card or a pencil?
I know we can look up the specs to get exact dimensions, but nothing helps more than real perspective: then, one can hold the credit card up to one's existing handset and make a real comparison.
Just some constructive criticism to help you help us. Love the device-- patiently waiting for the S720 to come to verizon.

I've been heavily considering one of these, but the 200mhz processor makes me nervous. I hate to get one and then have to wait on it. In contrast, the 8525 (Hermes) sports a 400mhz proc.

I think I read that WM6 was lighter on the processor than WM5, so if you tried running WM5 on this it might feel slow.

the htc s730 will be out in sept, same form factor with a 400mhz processor, 3g and gps.

I just got this about a month ago and it rocks...
For a 200mhz it's pretty fast and I've seen no difference between this and other wm5 devices. I use coreplayer for music and movies and it can handle them all great. I also use mercora to stream music and never have trouble. It's pretty fast for edge...
It's pretty small, but doesn't feel cramped when using either of the keyboards. Everyone keep asking me about getting rid of my "crackberry" (my e62) and when I slide out the keyboard they're surprised...
I absolutely recommend it!!!

Will a carrier be picking this up? If so, US release date?

Will a US carrier offer this? Looks better than the Dash. US release date?

Verizon will have the sister version eventually. I have the s710 and love it, but if the 3G Verizon import comes out soon I might have some buyer's remorse.

Hi,
I have been using the vox on Rogers in Canada for a month now. It works super. I get my emails, web etc. I use it with my bluetooth and again very satisfied where my previous phone (Audiovox 5600) was having problems with the same headset (Sony/Ericsson). Another very positive aspect of this handset is the quality of the voice recognition system for voice tags and very decent (for a cellphone) photos from the 2 MP camera. Only positives so far!
