A look at Verizon's busy summer
Please, we beg of you, take these dates with the proverbial grain of salt -- but according to sources, the dates draws near for what could be one of the busiest phone launching quarters for The Network ever. Word on the street is that several phones should be launching shortly including UTStarcom Libra at the end of June, the Palm Treo 755p, UTStarcom Titan, Sierra Wireless 595U USB aircard, and the Motorola Q9M (aka iPhone Killer) rounding out the month of July. A few other honorable mentions we'd like to throw in for ya: looks like the Samsung I760 might be forced to downgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0 in order to make the summer launch schedule, the Treo 800W is on track for late August and BlackBerry Pearl 8120 some time in the fourth quarter of the year. Not a bad list, eh?[Thanks, Jesse and HTC Kid]

FINALLY my friggen provider (Verizon) is getting some first run technology. Normally they are ALWAYS at the back of the pack.
Ben Kessler @ Jun 6th 2007 3:48PM
Ummm I highly doubt the Q9M is going to be the 'iPhone killer' I would assume it would either be the LG Prada or that newer touchscreen Linux ROKR.
Matt @ Jun 6th 2007 3:56PM
As per plenty of people I know and have heard about that are testing the i760 it does and will have Windows Mobile 6 pro on it. That list is outdated. If you look at the actual list that was posted over on HoFo there are plenty of striked out dates and they just didnt update the info for the i760! Also does anyone know what the heck the Moto Q9M looks like?
keovani @ Jun 6th 2007 3:56PM
agree with ben...this moto m..isnt even touchscreen. And to Jeff..what new are they getting..? 755p sprint along with the titan(mogul) i dont see the big whoop.
Ben Kessler @ Jun 6th 2007 3:59PM
This is the Q9 GSM version:
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/05/03/hands-on-with-a-motorola-q9-in-the-wild/
keovani @ Jun 6th 2007 3:59PM
the moto q9m is just the moto q9h (http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2007/05/31/motorola-q9h-hands-on/) its nothing new its an m instead of an h because its cdma.
JeffNLA @ Jun 6th 2007 4:00PM
True keovani. The UTStarcom phones look nice. I guess I'm so used to Verison's crappy "2 years after everyone else" - that anything looks good!
keovani @ Jun 6th 2007 4:05PM
what i wanna know is this new US pradaless phone..the KS20 and if that will come to verizon.
Patrick Horne @ Jun 6th 2007 4:24PM
Treo 800W. Are we really even sure about that one?
The Roc @ Jun 6th 2007 4:25PM
The Q9H and the Q9M are similar. But they aren't close to being the same phone. The M is all touch screen and has a somewhat larger display.
alex @ Jun 6th 2007 4:41PM
where did you hear that
keovani @ Jun 6th 2007 4:34PM
I dont buy the 800w either...i think the treo died after the 755 and the foleo was the dirt ontop the grave
keovani @ Jun 6th 2007 4:36PM
roc...where are you getting this M info from..? got pics..?
alex @ Jun 6th 2007 4:39PM
so the m is basically a smart phone... yipee
Dean @ Jun 6th 2007 4:42PM
I thought in a previous post on here, it was stated that the Pearl 8820 was GSM. This posting is all about Verizon though, right? Please tell me there is a decent phone coming out for verizon, even if it's 4Q.
DTL @ Jun 6th 2007 5:17PM
ABOUT TIME! I've been waiting for news on verizon release dates...
The Roc, where did you get your info from on the Q9M?
Bob @ Jun 6th 2007 5:23PM
So when are we going to see Samsung's Upstage for Verizon?
kopas @ Jun 6th 2007 5:44PM
Dude, if I can put a libra in my hand at the end of June. I'll take back everything I ever said about Verizon. Well, OK... maybe not.
Ron @ Jun 6th 2007 6:06PM
Roc, where are you getting this M info? Are you by chance referring to the Ming?
Ben Kessler @ Jun 6th 2007 7:00PM
The Ming? Absolutely not. That phone has been out in China for quite sometime and sucks. It will never come here.
I was thinking a newer version of this phone:

(Engadget, you like how I only link to your stories? ;) )

Is RIM really going to make CDMA Pearls? That's news to me... which also begs the question, will they be EVDO?
The upcoming 8120's with Rogers were supposed to be 3G, but I always thought those were GSM/UMTS/HSDPA, which didn't really concern me since it will take T-Mobile until 2016 to roll out HSDPA in my area even though Sprint and Verizon have had EVDO here for months/years.

Steven @ Jun 6th 2007 9:36PM
So Verizon is getting the Pearl or some version of the Pearl? That's amazing. I've been waiting a long time for them to hopefully release the Pearl. Quarter 4 is a while away but it would be worth the wait. I hope it has EVDO, I'm sure it would.
Mayank Mishra @ Jun 6th 2007 10:13PM
Awesome!
T Man @ Jun 6th 2007 11:29PM
The Titan and Libra both sound very nice, and will replace some aging smartphones in the lineup. I can't see the Q9M being a iPhone killer, though. Unless of course the Q9M ends up being way different than the Q9 we have seen, which is more of a evolutionary update to the Q.
Although one area that Verizon (and Sprint) will have a distinct advantage over the iPhone will be EVDO data speeds. EDGE is so five years ago.
liquidplatinum @ Jun 6th 2007 11:35PM
Roc is right about the M, it is not the same as the M. And the Treo 800w should be late Q3.
liquidplatinum @ Jun 6th 2007 11:37PM
Not the same as the GSM Q9 I mean...
OGHowie @ Jun 7th 2007 12:54AM
Damn, I guess I'll stick with the crappy Q for a little longer since I'm not that impressed with the 8830.
js @ Jun 7th 2007 11:51AM
will verizon require you to have a data plan if you get the blackberry pearl? I just want phone, camera and top of the line scheduling/reminder system.
EH @ Jun 7th 2007 1:55PM
Verizon requires a data plan of 25 dollars for 10 mb or 45 dollars for unlimited data on ALL BLACKBERRY DEVICES... ALL OTHER SMARTPHONES offer a pay per kb plan
JG @ Jun 7th 2007 2:10PM
On Boy Genius page, states that the new cap on "unlimited" data plan is now 4gb per month
elgee02 @ Jun 7th 2007 6:59PM
That is a typo or it is incorrect. It's not getting any lower.
Jesse S @ Jun 9th 2007 2:19AM
The i760 isn't downgrading, it's shipping with WM6. A tester is on pdaphonehome.com...
Jenifer @ Jun 13th 2007 9:25AM
I'm really leaning towards the Titan... are there any sites that already tested the picture quality?
CHAMILLE7 @ Jun 14th 2007 4:27PM
I am actually really impressed with the samsung i760 eventhough the keypad will need a little getting use to. I am really leaning towards that unless the titan and/or the q9m can make of for the xv6700 and the q!
