Sprint Nextel recently removed the
Treo 700p from its online lineup and replaced it with the marginally improved and
antenna-less 755p. Both are geared at business users and prosumers more than regular consumers, although Palm's consumer-level Treo 680 has been available on AT&T's network for a while now. Will a CDMA version of the
Treo 680 come to Sprint soon to sit alongside the 755p? To hit a consumer price point, this makes sense for Palm. The 680 and 755p would be in two different price categories due to the feature sets and software being different and the target customer being different as well. If the carrier wants to sell more data plans to its normal consumer base, a 680-like device could be just the ticket -- if it happens.

are you saying that is not a real picture?! lmao
kellybrf @ Jun 5th 2007 9:38PM
wtf?!? theres absolutely zero indication that this would happen and the speculation in this doesnt make much sense. data plans for sprint are the same regardless of the type of phone, meaning an entry level vision phone uses the same package as the top of the line data device. reporting on this is almost irresponsible, and is definitely pointless

lol well...it could happen..
P.s.
this may never be read by a EngadgetMobile personnel but i accidentally posted twice on one of the giveaways! i was hoping i would not be invalidated from further contests however i understand if this is what you wish to do, i do not mind being disqualified from the "Engadget Mobile relaunch giveaways - (PRODUCT) RED V3m for Sprint" (the second one) which is the one i accidentally posted twice to. My email is DukeLax713@gmail.com if further contact is needed, thank you.

This article doesn't make much sense. What "is" the difference between the two models other than one being targeted to professionals and the other to consumers? The 680 has a VGA cam and the 755 has a 1.3MP, so.. The difference is $130. Sure if I was a consumer I'd probably go for the cheaper if I had the option, but why give the option? What is the point?

I like my Treo 680 - I wish it were thinner, and had either Wifi or 3G, but it does fine for most things. I also much prefer the in-call controls of the Palm OS /Garnet to Winmob. Besides, it's cheaper.

I usually don't comment much, but I don't understand how you came to your conclusion. What would a Treo 680 have that would differentiate it enough from the 755p? Same OS, same processor, same screen, etc. etc. Do you think that the lack of rubberized paint, SD card slot, and the enhanced phone app make it worth it for Sprint to offer this device? Both devices would have EVDO Rev. 0 so you're not saving any money on the radio.
There's a reason why there's a 680 and 750 on AT&T.
1. Treo 750 = WM5 (which includes licensing costs whereas Palm OS doesn't really have those licensing costs now that Palm has acquired perpetual rights to it).
2. Treo 750 has UMTS/HSDPA capable
Those two reasons ALONE make sense for AT&T to have a 680 and 750. What is the point in having TWO Palm OS 5.x.x.x devices?
shattereddove @ Jun 6th 2007 12:56AM
Well it kind of makes since.. The main difference would be the camera.. and the EVDO and thats about it.. so the they would only pay for vision which i believe is only 10 dollars a month.
Robbie @ Jun 6th 2007 9:16PM
aw man. i totally thought this one was branded. lol.
PPC @ Jun 13th 2007 1:11AM
