T-Mobile BlackBerry users get free MMS service?
If you're a T-Mobile BlackBerry customer but aren't into push email (yeah, they exist), but you are into sending MMS messages from that Pearl's camera, you're in luck. There are reports that T-Mobile can turn the switch on a "BlackBerry Feature Enabler" which allows its BlackBerry customers to send and receive MMS messages for free if an SMS plan is subscribed to. We'd hate to think that those MMS users on T-Mobile's network would have to shell out $20 a month just to send pictures, and T-Mobile must have heard your pain. The solution -- if you're not using that BlackBerry's email functions or other data features -- is to call T-Mobile and have that $20 BlackBerry data plan taken off while adding the "BlackBerry Feature Enabler" (which is free) to your account.[Thanks, Ben]

is this like Cingular's system where MMS and SMS are treated the same, as in an MMS will deduct from your SMS plan?

T-Mobiles messaging packages now include both SMS & MMS. I don't see any SMS-only or MMS-only messaging packages at all. Just want someone to clarify that this really is talking about an SMS-only package and not the current inclusive package.

How is this news? Tmobile has been offering this for a while now. All their messaging plans offer sms and mms.
Infact you cannot get only sms plans if you are a new customer.

yes they have plans for messaging but if you have a pearl even if you pay for unlimited messaging you still cant do mms unless you had the data plan.

well the news is that before this month T-Mobile would not allow Blackberry phones to send/receive MMS without the $19.99 Blackberry plan (and it was still a per msg charge). Even if you had a MSG package but did not have the data plan then you could not send MMS at all. Now they are allowing people to actually get what they are paying for, I guess that = news :)

T-Mobile retail employee here...
Yeah, this is new. As stated correctly above, the blackberrys couldn't do MMS messaging without the 20 buck data plan.
What I came to add: If you have a pearl, without the data plan, this will automatically get added to your account. But not to the 8800 or any other blackberry for that matter.

Are yo positive on the fact that they will auto-add this? i went to a t-mobile store to request this be activated and the guy had no idea what was going on. He even called someone and they confirmed that i needed the data plan. how will i know if i have this on my account?

I'm pretty positive. At least, that's what all the literature they're passing around says.
To find out if you have it, either check your mytmobile, or call Care, 611 from the phone.
Oh, and don't usually go to a retail store to find out stuff. Most of those people could give a crap less unless you're adding lines.
Stephen @ May 30th 2007 8:01PM
I called 611 and they wouldn't tell me without the last 4 of my SS, and mytmobile doesn't say anything about it. This really sucks, i'd like to get what's being payed for.
Jonathan Wall @ May 31st 2007 7:02PM
You're going to have to validate the account when you call care... so.. yeah you're gonna need the last 4 of your social.

well... they wouldn't add it to my account. they offer the $19.99 plan
sephaie @ Aug 5th 2007 5:45PM
I just called T-Mobile, and they added it on for me. Ain't that a surprise. They told me it would take up to 48 hours for it to begin effect. Let's just hope all will work well.

I just turned off my blackberry pearl, turned it back up. And I received a message mentioning that it has been registered with the wireless network. I tried sending a MMS and the feature is now added on. The MMS feature was never there before. Just keep trying guys. I also do have a text messaging plan though, it was back then when they had the promotion for $9.99 unlimited messaging this includes text and picture. So maybe that was why they added it onto it. Hope this helps guys!

What about the MMS on the new WING? I have the MDA and I have access to MMS without the data plan. I'm worried that it won't be the same with the WING. Does anyone know anything about it?
