HTC Kaiser gets unboxed
Best Pocket PC Professional phone ever? The Boy Genius seems to think that's a description befitting the Kaiser, having taken inventory of his very own -- and given the spec sheet, we tend to agree. Windows Mobile 6, a 3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, WiFi, and 128MB of onboard RAM (yes, RAM, not ROM) are a solid start, and when you add in GPS and triband HSDPA, we're left a little speechless as to what HTC could possibly add to make everyone happy. A VGA display, perhaps, though the pure trickness of the flip-up hinge at least partially makes up for that minor indiscretion. It seems the only bad news about the Kaiser is the release; rumor has it we won't see a commercial shipment until October, which is like forever and a day from now according to our calendars.

This is what I want man. But, i wish there was still external CF support. I really should just get a UMPC and have a phone. But its just a dream.
Roman @ May 24th 2007 2:38PM
Does anybody know if this thing going to be released for cingular? My Contract runs out around October so it would be pretty sweet to be able to pick this badboy.

Any word on carriers? HSDPA suggests GSM carriers, of course... but which?
rosewood @ May 24th 2007 3:21PM
Looks nice
hesh @ May 24th 2007 3:25PM
I'm totally getting this phone even though I just got the 8525 last year.
Mark @ May 24th 2007 4:09PM
thats a nice phone
Neil @ May 24th 2007 4:46PM
The specs are really nice, but I'm not sure how I feel about the new pop screen, apart from it seeming a bit pointless it kinda seems like its something that given a bit of time could go wrong....I think the more simple slider design of the 8525 is the way to go.
Juice @ May 24th 2007 4:53PM
I want this now! Screw these people and their pre-releases. Either no one or everyone should get one! Can you tell I'm jealous. ;)
carlo @ May 24th 2007 4:59PM
They don't seem to mention that it is thinner and lighter than the Tytn at least according to PDADBNet (http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=733).
According to that site, it definitely appears to be thinner, 16 grams lighter, slightly slower processor (?dunno what that's about?), USB 2.0, and GPS.
A worthy upgrade.
My bets it will be from ATT/Cingular to continue the trent... but who knows. Unless there's some sort of contract, HTC could get jealous of ATT's preference for Apple's and LG/Prada's stringent display requirements, and pull the thing...

ohhhh, how HTC teases us Americans with their new-fangled phone technology!!!
Dave @ May 24th 2007 5:24PM
T-Mobile USA perhaps?
Or is there no chance in that that will happen?
If it does... I will cry tears of joy.
Erico @ May 24th 2007 5:46PM
yes! my next phone!
boe @ May 24th 2007 7:22PM
This is a great phone IMHO! Even though it is being released very close to the gimped 6800, it seems like an excellent PDA phone!
The FULL GPS, the additional program memory, the better microphone, and for people who want it the significantly better camera seem to make the 6800 look absurd. How can Sprint even think about releasing the 6800 so late when our brethren are getting such a better phone? Sprint better get the 6800 out the door as fast as possible before more people find out about this phone and jump ship!
nofoundland @ May 24th 2007 9:07PM
ah it comes with front built in camera for video share, am i correct ? ! i hope att will provide that in usa!
Richard Lai @ May 24th 2007 9:16PM
It is not VGA. The screen says 320x240.
V.I. @ May 25th 2007 6:57AM

pick me, please.
justin @ May 25th 2007 11:35AM
nice
alex @ May 25th 2007 5:17PM
AT&T probably carry it next year as a replacement for 8525 and calls it 8750?
Robbie @ May 26th 2007 12:24AM
att has 8125, 8525 (upgrade from 8125), 3125, and 2125
so where do you get 8750 from? lmao. maybe the 8725 if anything. i doubt 9125 because that is already a smartphone model number for a competing phone and of course theres the nokia 9100, 9190, 9300, and 9500.
tmobile? are you serious? you do realize the umts frequency would only work with att in the US, right? tmobile uses 1700 mhz. theres no phone in the world that even has that yet.
pop up being a pain? r u serious? you would really rather look at a flat slider than have a comfortable angle?
popularelect is not selling it. only taking preorders.
video share would be great.
Ken @ May 26th 2007 4:41PM
JUST bought an 8525 from Cingular - now I want to return it and wait for this one to come out! All the features I've been looking for...
Cypher @ May 28th 2007 2:52PM
looks like the t-mobile wing, rebrand?
Brazzle @ Jun 5th 2007 1:33PM
Boy Genius just updated their story:
"UPDATE: Who is up for some good news? After talking with my source again regarding the HTC Kaiser, I questioned him in detail about the release. He got an update from HTC saying that this will actually ship in late July, not October! The HTC Shift should be out in October. Take this as you will, but it's lookin' better and better for everyone by the minute!"

Awesome!
NuShrike @ Oct 11th 2007 4:05PM
Well, it actually shipped 2nd week of September; for the record.
