Zenum's Opus taken for a spin
Well, well, the once-vaporous Opus Operis from Swiss newcomers Zenum has finally crystalized. The kids over at CNET got their hands dirty with what seems to be a production ready unit -- we kid you not. So what did they have to say about this slim QWERTY running Windows Mobile 6 on a 2.5-inch touchscreen with a 2 megapixel camera, miniSD expansion, and infrared, WiFi, and Bluetooth connectivity? Well, overall they were "quite impressed." Sure, the keyboard is "a little squashed" and the phone is limited to tri-band GSM (No 3G, no EDGE), but CNET decided to cut the small startup a break on their first offering. Don't know 'bout ya'll, but they seem to have lost some of "the sexy" we saw in those early teasers. Especially when considering that it's still 4 months away from product launch.

yawn...
im sorry but seeing how many people gave apple sh!t for the iPhone (which although lacking is still expertly designed,) saying that there's no room for newcomers in the cell phone industry, this newcomer doesn't deserve a pat on the back for designing a subpar phone. Guess what! Having WM6 in 4 months aint gonna make your phone worth buying... get some features and a 3G radio and try again.
P.S. no I'm not an iPhone fanboy... I

Why do you say it doesn't have EDGE? CNet doesn't say it doesn't, and the specs on Zenum's own site say it does.

WOW .. another windows mobile device .. even on their website they push the features of that OS more then what a cool thing that device is ..
i think if they gone back and add something like potable linux or something it be way more impressive .. but no .. its another lame WM handset ..
also it did in fact look better a few months ago ..
oh .. yes i am a apple / iphone fanboy but i do love my gadgets .. but i get bored of this unimaginative stuff ..
presenting new devices as the beginning of a new word era and then its another windows mobile offering .. i mean come on ...
i cant wait to see the UIQ interface works Moto did on the Z8 .. they already had rave reviews for it .. so thats something to write home about ...
still i wish others would design a handset lookin as good as this one here and then stick a linux version inside and make that also look damn cool ..
that be a killer ... not a iPhone killer but a killer .. heheh
love.. x

They should have kept the screen longer or squashed the buttons a bit. It just seems like a waste to put a touchscreen on such a small screen.

Kind of... um, Dark looking

I think it looked much cooler in the original renderings (was it a year ago or so?).

I agree with some aspects of your post, indeed lack of 3G, lack of this, lack of that. I'ts a basic featured phone, that gives you the ability to make and receive calls with a kinda "cool" look that some might like or hate, oh, tri band only? Damn in all Europe it's enough, and a lot of people are not lucky as you may be to travel where you have 850 bands. Great i should buy a 3G EDGE QUADBAND DUAL CAMERA EXTRA POWERED 500MHZ SUPER CHARGED CINEMA SCREEN WITH SLIDE UP LEFT 90 SCREEN. And finally i would make calls like my grand mother with her nokia 3210. Great article Thomas, keep going ;-)

I agree with T-Will. When I first saw the picture of the early teaser, I didn't know what it was, but when I saw that picture, I knew I had to find out. and I did find out. This one.... if given the same situation as last time, probably won't give me that same enthusiasm.
