Nokia's 6300 plays fetch with Fido
While the Canadians in the crowd may not have paid too much attention to the the Nokia 6300 review, you should probably take interest now that the handset is making its North American debut on Fido. The tri-band (850 / 1800 / 1900) candybar measures in at a sleek 13.1-millimeters thick, sports a sexy stainless steel motif, and packs modernized features into one of Nokia's most long-standing designs. Among the inclusions are a two-megapixel camera with video recording capability, a 512MB microSD card, Bluetooth, music player, FM tuner, voice dialing, a bundled headset, and a battery that purportedly lasts through 3.5-hours of continuous talking. Best of all, Fido users don't even have to wait for this thing to show up, as the 6300 is available right now for $300 sans a contract, $150 with a two-year deal, or $100 when signing a three-year contract.[Via Cellphones Etc., thanks Branden]

Finally the 6300 arrives in North America...but not in the U.S. I've never had a phone as solid as my old 6230 and have been waiting for a slim bar-style replacement for a long time.
Does anyone have info on a U.S. release?
Does anyone know why Nokia takes sooooo long to release phones? Seems like SE has released a dozen since Nokia introduced this one.

I, too, am a 6230 user who looks forward to this phone as an obvious upgrade. I've been following it around and there's been no news of US release anywhere. It's a good sign that it's had a North American pickup at all, though. If you look at the current Nokia options on Cingular/AT&T and T-Mobile's sites, most of them are either flip-phones or smartphones (in fact only the 6030 on T-Mobile is a bar-phone). I get the sense that Nokia doesn't like the carriers in the US market - and I don't blame them... but I still want access to good phones. I might have to break down and buy an unlocked 6300.

Now if it will just come to ATT! I've been holding off on switching my plan to an employee plan for a while now because I have an upgrade and badly want this phone to replace my 3120.

Check my post below...amazon started carrying the us version today. I'm guessing it won't be long for att/cingular to start selling it.

You Canadians need to sell some unlocked ones on ebay and hofo pronto!
Robbie @ May 22nd 2007 7:19PM
if you want an unlocked one, the Nokia Flagship stores in the US will be selling them soon.

Nokia US will be selling them when?
I've called and they claim to have no info whatsoever.
Also...anyone have any info as to which US carrier might get the 6300 (if any)?
Thanks.

amazon just began selling the 850/1800/1900 unlocked version for $299. (they also sell the 900/1800/1900 version for $325, but the 900 gsm version gets less reception with att/cingular.) The catch is their saying it will take 4-6 weeks for delivery. When they posted an unlocked version of the nokia n75, it was only a week or so later that cingular started selling it, and amazon began offering a cingular contract phone (for $165 less than cingular's price).
