AT&T gets green flag to rebrand Burton's NASCAR ride
We know that there's another grueling week to survive between now and the Coca-Cola 600, but here's a NASCAR tidbit that will hopefully satisfy your Sunday desire for a little roundtrack action. AT&T has been given the green flag to rebrand Jeff Burton's (very orange) #31 race car after Judge Marvin H. Shoob of the US District Court, Northern District of Georgia, "granted AT&T's motion for preliminary injunction in its suit against NASCAR." It was noted that the decision gives AT&T "the immediate right to put its logos and brand marks" on the vehicle, and while we're not certain if we'll see a slightly new look come May 27th, we're sure it won't be long before the blue sphere makes its official debut.[Via RCRNews]

Wow... anyone that is into NASCAR would have been watching Jeff Burton race last night in the All-Star Challenge... he was adorned w/ the new colors/logo last night.
And the race DID air on TV.

Hopefully the official debut will look a little better. Looked pretty crappy in last nights race. They just stuck decals over the logo and cingular name, but the colors didn't match the orange properly.

Or rather I will spend part of May 27th being productive and the other part watching a little race known as the Indianapolis 500. You know, it's that world famous one not overrun with confederate flags, bible beaters, and people who take pride in being a yokel with poor grammar while cheering on cars with technology which was outdated in 1980. Iron blocks, carburetors, leaded fuel? Really?
Having that out of my system, I think the orange and black Cingular car is much better looking. Nothing can be done to save it though unless AT&T wants to give up decades of iconic white and blue.

LOL @ Scott... trust me, I don't support/watch NASCAR events... I just got free tickets from work and decided to watch all the drunk rednecks make fools of themselves.

Wow Scott, what a delightfully ignorant generalization of NASCAR fans... 20 YEARS AGO!
NASCAR fans today are, in general, a lot more modern and less "redneck"ish than they used to be.

Great. AT&T can waste more branding money on marketing, while it still fails to offer consistent (or differentiated) services...well, they are certainly differentiating their services by providing bad customer experiences, at least by my official research methodology of, er, my own experience. I've written a bit about AT&T's branding woes at Dim Bulb, http://dimbulb.typepad.com, if you'd care to check it out. Thanks!
