2006 was a banner year for mobile enthusiasts; North America's 3G networks really started to come into their own, the line between "camera" and "phone" became blurrier than ever before, and smartphones cemented their place in ubiquity. Of course, all that tech made choosing last year's Engadget Awards a truly daunting task, one best left to our trusty readers -- and as usual, you've come through with some solid selections. Hahaha, LUIS. I have to agree with you. I think that Vista, while highly anticipated, doesn't have as much riding on it as a lot of other things that have/have had yet to come out--especially since it's "of 2007". The hubbub has totally died down.

iPhone??? u mean n95!!!! let's not overlook features due to a snazzy advertising hype campaign. i do recall u reporting a mr. jobbs saying this hunk of shit would be obsolete by it's release date, hence the need to start on the iCrap 2. the n95 will be at the top of it's class for another 3 years in the u.s. and at least another 2 for the u.k.!!

i've lost a lot of respect of the readers of engadget... and gained a lot for the editors... actually i already had a lot of respect for them to begin with... they were great guys when i got to meet them.
justification:

ive used both pearl and hermes. it's not even a contest...
802.11n is largely pre-standard and device compatibility is still hit and miss

as for vista... actually i think engadget editors are Microsoft fanboys... best OS ive had a change to use is Ubuntu 7.04 and i think ryan block can confirm that.

i meant chance* to use... ( i have vista installed... its terrible... reminds me of when XP first came out and you had to reinstall it every week completely and my p3 450 was too slow to run it.

i dont understand why vista's UI requires so much juice anyway. i use beryl in Ubuntu and it runs briskly... even on my laptop with intel 855 chipset w/o hardware acceleration
