Kudos to T-Mobile for
rushing (in relative terms) Windows Mobile 6 to its
Dash, an honorable move that makes it the first carrier to launch a Windows Mobile 6 device in the US. We've had a chance to run through the re-upped device today, and, well, what can we say: it's a faithful implementation of
Windows Mobile 6 Standard. As we've said before, Windows Mobile 6 is an extraordinarily incremental upgrade; the new operating system alone probably doesn't warrant rushing out tomorrow and picking up a shiny new Dash, but for existing owners, we can't think of a better way to close out the week. I have the regular t-509 phone now. I use the t-Zones feature which lets me visit any website for roughly $6 a month. I just can't install any mobile apps on my phone that do not come from t-mobile.
I checked on the dash, and I was told that I couldn't have the t-zones service on it, instead I would have to pay a $20-$29 a month fee to use any internet features but I could log on from a wifi spot for free.
The reason I pay the t-zones fee is to be able to check my email from anywhere not just wifi spots. And I have to do that through the wap browser, because I can't use the google mobile app with t-mobile.
Are all cariers like this, or did I just choose the wrong one. T-Mobile is quickly loosing my business.......Maybe I am just cheap, but I feel like I am getting ripped for just checking email.

The price they quoted you for internet includes their regular mobile data AND WiFi at any of their hotspots. You get both for the price.

i've had the dash for a few months now, and installed the leaked "official" tmobile branded upgrade last sunday. i've been impressed with the dash since day one. i typically go through phones very fast [gadget whore much?] because i get bored and end up annoyed with a phone for some reason. HOWEVER, i am a huge fan of the dash. had a Q, hated it. wm6 is a teriffic plus for the phone. the phone has always been stable for me, but now seems to be even better and responds even quicker. there are a few quirks with wm6, but those few minor things are nothing compared to the benefits [and braging rights?] of the upgrade. the biggest quirk is how to start a new sms msg. it's changed a little bit...not sure why. three button pushes has turned into seven. no biggie though, after one day, it's just as quick of a process...if you can retrain your fingers and mind. wm6, t-moile dash...I LOVE THEM

I know every says this, but the Dash looks a lot nicer in person than it does in photos. I was hesitant after I ordered one off the Internet sight unseen, but I don't regret it at all. With a few tweaks, I like it better than my than my Cingular 8125, which is a surprise, considering how much I like/liked that phone.

I just updated my unlocked Dash that I was with my Cingular Sim and its absolutely fantastic!! Remember to sync your data before doing the upgrade. I thought I bricked it after it flashed the phone. After the data transfers the phone then resets itself. The intial cold boot after the rom reflash was about 3-5 minute wait before it finally got to the today screen. And best of all it stays unlocked when you use a IMEI code unlock!! Slight changes in the new os 'the new placement of the delete key for text messages for example' but other than that awesome upgrade!! Good job HTC!!

I am a current more mature SK3 users. I got the SK3 for the QWERTY board and being able to have a complete address book. I needed to combine my cell phone and palm pilot. I getting tired of the SK3 flip which is the signature for SK, I was thiking of purchasing the DASH for especially since I can get directons for my job. Is it worth switching, the plan price will change. Thanks.

I "upgraded" to Windows Mobile 6.0 on Friday and have encountered a few issues that might be of interest to others.
I used the voice dialer on Win 5.0 with great success. Granted you had to record a voice command but it worked quite well and also could be activated by the button on my Plantronics 510 bluetooth headset.
I have not been able to get Voice Command to work through this headset. Their are two issues.
1. I finally figured out that if you set the "Voice Button" in Voice Command setup to "App 4" you can activate the voice command by briefly pushing the power button, however I have not been able to figure out a way to activate Voice Command from my headset. This is a serious drawback. When your phone is in a case (example in your car when you are most likely to use hands free dialing) you have to remove it to activate Voice Command.
2. Once it is activated, the Voice Command must be done by speaking into the phone (headset still doesn't work) and all responses come from the speaker on the phone (not through headset). This makes voice dialing only slightly more safe in a car than just dialing the number.
Only after the call is initiated does the headset become operable.
If anyone out there has figured out a solution to these Voice Command issues please let me know.
This may not be an issue for most folks but if I could go back to Windows Mobile 5.0 with my reliable voice dialing I would.

I always used my headset to activate my voice recognition using wm5. has anyone come up with the answer

I, too was an avid fan of the SK series. I bought the dash before they released in October and I can't say enough about it. I absolutely LOVE this phone. I am a gadget person and I get bored easily especially with cellys but this baby truelly rocks. As far as your price concern, no biggie it's worth it. I was concerned too but didn't really notice a huge price difference when I got my bill. It takes some getting use to the Dash but man, I don't miss having the flip. I'm still in awe how thin and small it is.

VOICE COMMAND:i've ahd the same problems. altough i havent tried it with my H700 bt headset yet, i did find that App2 is the # key.(when held down it puts the phone in vib mode,but when App2 is selected,it also activates voice command as well.And works with the stereo head phones that came with the dash.

You need to do a registry edit to get it to work with your BT.
Change this registry entry:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway\BTA GExtModule
Replace the default string value with
\Windows\vcbthag.dll

Voice command: just installed WM6 upgrade and voice command comes on when I hold down the Home (picture of house) button. That's with the Voice Command "Voice Button:" set to Record. My bluetooth headset works too -- just press and release the talk button and the voice command comes on.

I too have been happy with my T-Mobile Dash from day one, and I also like the WM6 upgrades. Similarly to others, I agree that some changes in key sequences and locations of menu items seem gratuitous, but I'll get used to them.
My biggest peeve is that I do not seem to be able to change the default home page of PocketIE under WM6... what am I missing?

I recieved my Dash the day after the WM6 update. BTW, that was a very easy upgrade! The pictures don't do it justice. It is small but not too small. I have fat fingers and I don't seem to have any problems using the QWERTY keyboard. It was a very easy transition from my RAZR. Overall, I like the phone. Positives are: super lightweight, easy learning curve for WM6, Edge Network, great screen and camera! Negatives are the volume controls and the camera button is in a weird spot, i.e. not easy to use, but those are minor things. My biggest gripe is that the ear volume isn't quite loud enough for my taste.
Washington state just passed a law on driving will using cell phones and I'm learning to use the bluetooth more often. Data transfer is quick but I'm not too impressed with the Interenet. All in all, I'd give this a 9 out of 10 due to the volume keys.

The voice command "feature" is horrible on this phone. I just upgraded to WM6 because Tmobile tech support told me I needed to in order to fix other problems I was having. Voice tags on WM5 worked every time I tried them, never failed. I am getting at best 5% correct numbers now, and I can't initiate a call from bluetooth anymore. It's ridiculous. This should have never made it out of beta testing the way it is. The only thing that voice command is good for is humor value when it comes up with names that don't even resemble what you say. It's insane that the only way you can get bluetooth working is by hacking the OS! I'll be doing it soon, but that still doesn't fix the useless voice recognition. At least it gets numbers right, so I can dial the ones I remember without touching the phone. Enough of rant. I urge all of you who have this problem to call Tmobile and tell them to fix it, that's the only way anything will get done. I've already done my part... If you like voice tags, then DON'T UPGRADE. I'd go back to WM5 if I could, but can't find a way to do it.

My headset stopped working as well. Can you use headphones for music? This bug is driving me crazy, if anybody knows how to fix it I'd appreciate the info!
