Well lookey lookey, the cellphone fairy dropped us off an unbranded
Motorola Q9 to fool around with. Cut to the chase: we're not going to lie: the fact that it's larger than the Q is somewhat unacceptable in our eyes -- we really don't care that it has HSDPA, 3G is no longer an excuse for a big ass phone. Also unfortunate: no more scroll wheel, you're now stuck with the usual up/down rocker buttons. The keyboard, which looks especially tactile, isn't really all that fantastic, and kind of reminded us of a grid of slick, round hard-candies. Basically, we're not super stoked for the Q9, but hey, it ain't over until it's out, and this thing hasn't shown any signs of
US release in the near future, so maybe they'll have time to work out some kinks.

I like the keypad and overall look but the lack of a scroll wheel is a big downer. Why no scroll wheel?

Huh? Big ass phone? It's equal to the Q on the z-axis, slightly shorter in the y, and maybe a couple of millimeters wider in the x. And as far as tactile response of the keys - did you guys even try typing anything? Q9 is light years better than Q.

I barely used the scroll wheel at all and based on I recall a video clip from 3GSM where someone (from Moto?) stated that the scroll wheel was removed and the D-Pad was enhanced. The longer you hold up or down the scrolling time is increased so you will be able to move up and down the screen faster than a scroll wheel.
My only question is if ATT Wireless is NOT getting this (rumors at the BoyGeniusReport say yes) then where and when can we get an unlocked unit?
