A full month of mobile web on your phone seem like a bit much? A tad overwhelming, perhaps? Alltel subscribers now have an option situated squarely between per-kilobyte and monthly rates for its "Axcess" content: the easy-to-swallow Day Pass, coming in at just $1.49 for 24 hours of all-you-can-eat news, sports, and miscellany. Of course, customers are still more than welcome to buy ringtones, wallpapers, and games over their data connection without paying a dime -- but if you simply must know the score in the game, you're now just $1.49 away.

This is a good idea what took so long...?

This is the model that Boost has been using for years, but it is less than 50cents for 24 hours. And their walled garden is free. This is a very smart model for most consumers, as they only use "web" access when they need it and would in many cases save money over a monthly data fee. Plus the Boost model of free access to the walled garden allows for not data cost to be tacked onto a purchase, of say a ringtone. Just think, that without a data plan a $5 ringtone could end up costing you $20 in data fees...dirty little secret I know.
This also opens the door for GPS and data on demand as most customers would like to use it. I hope that other carriers could adopt this model for casual users. Maybe it would lead to greater adoption.

For casual wireless data users, this is the best feature ever. No need to worry about how much data you've downloaded.

How much does data cost on Alltel? I have unlimited T-Zones for $5/mo.

Of course, if you just need to know the score of the game (or the weather, or whatever) it's still less expensive - and faster - to send a text message to Google Mobile for the answer.
I'm a big fan of wireless data access (I've got the unlimited plan on my Cingular line and use it several times each day, including using it as a modem on my MacBook) but it's not always needed... even at $1.49.

#4: Axcess Web runs $5.99/month (for the same services you'll get for $1.49/day)

This would be a splendid idea... if I could pay per day for tethering to a laptop or PDA. I'd pay $5/day for that - heck, I just paid $12/day to a hotel...

love the idea! Funny thing is ringtones are $1 to $20 per. 24 hrs of data on the internet $150?
