T-Mobile USA to get Nokia N95?
We're not too sure what to make of this, but the industry journal Mobile/Cellular Technology slips a couple interesting details in its profile page for T-Mobile USA: one, that it'll be picking up the Nokia N90 (a little old, no?), and more interestingly, that it'll also rock the N95. To be fair, they manage to accidentally swap the N90's and N95's pictures in their sidebar, so they may have absolutely no idea what they're talking about, but for a country (and a carrier) starved for S60 devices, this is a rumor we'd very much like to cling to. As always, we'll remain cautiously optimistic until we're given sufficient reason to the contrary.

Robert @ Apr 30th 2007 3:08PM
What about the UMTS radios? Will they still be incompatible with the US or will Nokia make a special edition for T-Mobile (like they did with the 3650/3660 for AT&T back in the day)?
Tiffany @ Apr 30th 2007 3:15PM
Hmmm a 3G device on TMO? It will be interesting to see what frequency cpability it ships with.
Iscariote @ Apr 30th 2007 3:26PM
Holy crap. This will be awesome.
m. @ Apr 30th 2007 3:30PM
too bad t-mo will criple the firmware first as they always do.
Pablo @ Apr 30th 2007 3:34PM
Tmo already offered the n90 through wolf camera stores (those stores are already Tmo agents)
roe @ Apr 30th 2007 4:33PM
Nice, I just switched my plan to T-mobile from verizon because all of the cell phone company are soo freaken expensive but T-mobile is very reasonable price. I see why alot of people Love T-Mobile. All the T-Mobile hatters will even hate T-Mobile more if they do get the N95. It was just a matter of time because majority of the people in Europe uses T-mobile for the N95 anyways.
Schumann @ Apr 30th 2007 4:36PM
Pity TMO doesn't have the network capability to back a powerful phone like this.
At least there'll be folks going out of contract, moving to the next greatest thing, or breaking contracts who'll make their used phones available, making it a bit easier/cheaper for people witha REAL GSM/3G network to obtain one ;)
Calum @ Apr 30th 2007 8:05PM
ACTUALY T-Mobile will shedual the release of this phone with the at the same time as they roll out their 3G network, so actualy this phones will have working 3G-ness.
I was going to buy this phones unlocked but it's like $750 cheapest. I'm hoping T-mo does infact get this phone (for an ok price), I'd rush out and buy it straight away!
tnkgrl @ Apr 30th 2007 8:08PM
I've suggested before that T-Mobile should use the N95 (with different 3G frequencies) as their flagship/launch device for their upcoming 3G network...
This would also give Cingular's some iPhone compeition!

How about N95 w/WiFi (http://www.nokia.com/A4136001?newsid=1077775 paragraph 6) and a national rollout of T-Mobile USA's HotSpot @Home service (http://www.theonlyphoneyouneed.com/)? No need to wait for 3G.

N90? I seriously doubt that T-Mo will officially rollout a phone that a) does not have 850 MHz frequency (important for roaming) b) Is about two years old. Also, N95 isn't likely either unless Nokia will update 3G radio on this phone to include UMTS 850/1900
marco arellano @ May 1st 2007 2:45PM
well, if t-mobile gets this phone, hope it wont be like when they launched the n90 only through another camera store. hope it can have 3g american network (1700 and 2100). good for t-mobile.
Jamie @ May 1st 2007 4:16PM
I don't trust this story one bit. First, they mixed the phones up on the sidebar. Also, did anyone see the MAP? That's an old Aerial map, TMO's current coverage is way better!

Had to ask since you do have the n95, are you able to use the video calling in the US? What about the TV feature? and is the phone as slow as every one is saying? thanks for any help. I am thinking of getting one this week but I hate to buy such a great phone just to find out I cant use all of its great features. I apreciate any help you have for me

THIS IS THE BEST MOBILE PHONE NEWS I'VE HEARD IN A LONG TIME. Wow, this would almost be too good to be true. N95 sold by a carrier in USA...and my carrier at that! I personally think T-Mobile needs N95 to bring back some sense of carrying cutting-edge phones; frankly, the ones they offer have been very "safe" for a long time.
db @ May 2nd 2007 11:07AM
When it comes to cool phones like the n95, I never believe stories like these until I see it for myself. I remember way back when Cingular was "supposed" to come out with the n80 and the Sony k790 (I think that's what it was called). I waited for so many months for either of those phones to come out and they never did (at least not through Cingular, they were/are available online through Nokia and Sony respectively). Finally I decided to move on and that's when I've discovered the world of unlocked phones. I'm never going to a locked phone ever again, no matter how much of a discount I get from signing/renewing a contract. I currently own an n95 right now and while I can set mp3s as ringtones in the unlocked one, I'm pretty sure that IF T-Mobile gets the n95, they will cripple it so that you can't set mp3s as ringtones and would instead have to buy the ones from T-Mobile themselves. Every cell phone company is like that. It's inevitable. On the other hand, I wouldn't hold my breath on this one. You'd be better off buying the n95 unlocked (if you're willing to pay $749 + tax). That's my two cents.

I usually wouldve said BS.. but in todays technology journal in WSJ I read about T-mobile's national roll out of its hotspot @ home service launch this summer with handsets from Nokia and Samsung.. Tmobile is making moves regardless of its lack of US 3G this along with myFaves is shaking things up..I may even switch from cingular
mike @ May 3rd 2007 9:04PM
you kno whats funny? i don't think neone here didn't get the part that this is not an official announcement but rather a possible confusion between two different products. But if true-- i would be switching carriers to T-mo. and leaving my 6yr commitment of cingular/at&t!!!
Jeff R @ May 4th 2007 3:17AM
Tmo roadmap is set for umts and the phones are set. All that is need now is for the network to be converted and updated. Minneapolis engineering for example is spending millions to update the network. remember that there high speed network will be on the 1700mhz band but they will also use cingy/atts 850/1900 hspda bands.
Dre @ Jun 30th 2007 9:17PM
Ok, so I did a lil research: This July AT&T will make available their "video share"(video calling) it will only be only be available on 3 handsets sofar. Two of which are Samsung and the other is by some other phone maker. Video share is curently available in three US Cities(more to come this summer), Dallas, San Antonio, and Atlatnta on one of the three select handsets. My concern was that if I purchased an unlocked n95 would it still be able to video share with other cingular compatible phones?
TheAgencyOne @ Jul 13th 2007 4:40PM
Don't get overly excited about this. The N90 was approved for use on the T-Mo network, that is all. This means that when a customer calls in with one, they still get support from T-Mo.
As for the N95 coming to T-Mo, don't count on it being sold by them. Approved for use on the network maybe, but not likely to be sold in T-Mo stores.
As for the 3G network, it will be used only for Voice when it is launched and not for data. They need bandwidth to help with over crowding.

My Nokia N95 doesn't get service. I have T-Mobile, and I don't know HOW to get my phone to connect to a NETWORK that will allow me to call/text/use internet.
ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO HELP ME GET MY NOKIA n95 working??
ishtaiqmunazam @ Feb 9th 2008 9:32AM
