O2 goes green, offers incentives not to upgrade handset

We're handset-lovers first and foremost around here, so the news that O2 is offering incentives for customers to not upgrade their handsets made us issue a collective whimper of dismay. Of course all that flipped once we realized they are apparently hellbent on saving the earth and are passing along some of the proceeds of this green move to Mother Nature via energysavingtrust.org.uk. The plan sees customers getting a $190 credit and O2 passing $20 along to the charity – or of course you keeping the entire $210 to use as you see fit – once you sign on the dotted line for a 12 month contract. We all stand and wave our arms in salute to a company that does seem to be doing the right thing.
