The Boy Genius Report: More detail on Sprint's summer plans
Field report tidbits from Engadget's mobile insider, the Boy Genius. We have some additional details to fill in some blanks created by Sprint's last roadmap document -- nothing groundbreaking, but we now know exactly what it is that'll be discontinued over the next few months, and admittedly, there are a few surprises. But before we talk about phones riding off into the sunset, let's touch on some new arrivals, shall we? The PPC-6800 and Treo 755p are set to show on on exactly the same day -- May 14 -- which should lead to an interesting sales face-off. Sprint's brief description of the 755p is kinda interesting: "1st Palm EVDO Treo w/intern antenna. In box support for IM, NFL Mobile, Mobile Voice Control, voice dialing, replaces Treo 700P." Actually, it's not that interesting, we just really like to see the phrase "1st Palm EVDO Treo w/intern antenna" all official-like. Also of note, the Sanyo Katana II hits June 18 to replace the Katana (obviously), though Sanyo fans' excitement is going to be quelled a bit by the knowledge that the M1 is now chalked up for decommissioning in the May - June timeframe. Seems like a short life for a relatively powerful handset, no? Anyhoo, follow the break for a full list of Sprint pieces getting the proverbial axe in the coming months.

Any idea when the 755 will hit Verizon?
Kevin @ Apr 26th 2007 12:35AM
Actually the M1 has been taken off the EOL list so I guess it's staying for a little while longer.
Anthony @ Apr 26th 2007 8:07AM

To bash another company is a sign of insecurity of self and the company you use!

Sprint is always ahead of everyone else when it comes to new Treo phones. Why do you want the 755 for Verizon? Sprint has much cheaper data plans.

Boy genius I'm on a nextel 7520 blackberry what will be replacing the 7520 for nextel customers. Or will we only have the sure type 7100i to choose from and will there be a dual mode iden/cdma berry coming out any time this year or next as I use the push to talk on nextel daily and still need that feature as well as I need a blackberry as well
Chad M @ Apr 26th 2007 9:43PM
James you have that Blackberry 8830 coming out in may. Otherwise its 7100 or bust.
bboycrew @ Apr 30th 2007 2:41AM
yeah but will the sprint 8830 berry have the push to talk as i use the push to talk a lot with business clients and friends daily and need that feature?

sprint is NOT ahead when it comes to treos. sprint does NOT have a treo where you can talk on the phone and browse the internet simultaneously. cingular has had the treo 750 for a while now. a very cool phone if you know what you're doing. half of the users don't know what they're doing and end up taking it back saying it doesn't work, when they are the problem. i enjoyed being able to use voice and data at the same time. every company/carrier is going to have something different that the user wants. when i went to the sprint store with my treo 750 they swore out they had the newest one until I showed them my Treo 750. One guy kept my phone, and played with it the whole time I was there. I only went back to sprint bc of its data plans. If AT&T's data plans were cheaper, I would switch back without hesitating.

Mlm0369 @ Jun 24th 2007 2:29PM
It was mentioned that the new Katana was coming out on June 18th and I have yet to see it.
