T-Mobile "Wing" to change name, see Q2 release?
Call it a T-Mobile device... just don't call it "Wing." Word has it that execs at the nation's number two GSM carrier were less than pleased with the naming for its latest Pocket PC phone (but "Dash" somehow made the cut?), though it's unknown what the new name will be. But wait, we haven't gotten to the good part yet: the same rumor claims that the release date has been pushed up (not a typo) to May 27 for a mere $249 on two-year contract, perhaps a nod to perceived pressure from Sprint and Verizon's latest round of HTC superdevices. That's quite a launch bump from the original estimate of August; we'll believe it when we see it, but we're doing our best to stay optimistic.[Thanks, Seth]

I got my phone like two weeks ago. it works fine but when i use the internet , it keeps on telling me to try again and that the address bar is invalid. All the settings alright.

I can almost confirm that the date has been moved up on this. I was in a t-mobile store yesterday to see when I can upgrade my phone and I hinted I knew something about the new PPC phone. THe sale persona I was talkign to had no idea abotu anything (like most sales people), but they young sales clerk next to him said to expect something by the first week of June. He was not able to give me a price, but mentioned it would probably be around the same price point as the MDA was.

I look forward to this unit. I love my MDA, but the screen acts up, especially when it is cold. My second MDA with this problem.
Frank @ Apr 20th 2007 3:24PM
Will this have wi fi? How does this compare to the Dash? Is the only difference the touchscreen? Which one does everyone recommend? I was planning on picking up the Dash in mid may but now I may opt for the Wing.
Jon @ Apr 20th 2007 7:10PM
I was also told my a tmobile rep in the store that this is coming out towards the end of May.

Called T-mobile today cause I seem to be having trouble with my MDA. I've had it since last August, and have only had connection probles, something they just make note of and refund you at the end of the month. But For some reason this weekend, the screen started re-aliging itself to where the right half doesn't respond to anything. Of course they tried to trouble shoot it, had me do a master reset, and finally gave me my options. The other crazy thing is when you do the master reset it is supposed to reboot the memory eraseing all the text messages and pics. Well when I turned it back on all the pictures were gone, but a few seconds later all 3,080 text messages stated coming in as new messages. The rep had no idea how that happend. Anyways my options were to trade it for the T-Mobile Dash, a phone that some of my friends have and have and have had replace every few weeks for a cracked screen, blown speaker, or key board problems, something that the rep confirmed they have had quite a few complaints about. The other was to do a product exchange for another MDA, something no longer offered on the website or through customer. I was curious as to why that was and the rep told me that they have a new product coming out next month if not within the next couple of weeks. They said that right now it is know as the "Wing" but it will change names before it comes to market. I was curious as to if they would replace my MDA with a "Wing" when ever it comes out, and she said that, "well if you seem to have the same types of problems again once the "Wing" is available, they should replace it with the better product as part of the product replacement plan."
So looks like I need to find something wrong with my MDA in the comming weeks.

I wanted to respond about the screen alignment. I have to go into the Screen function and realign it and that seems to do the trick. However, you have to use it is landscape mode to actually get to the screen alignment feature which is tricky when the right side doesn't seem to work. It's frustrating but a simple fix.
I hope this "wing" is put out in more colors than this blue.
DblP2429 @ May 5th 2007 1:47AM
Wonder what TMO will want for a 2-year contract? $249 maybe.....
me @ May 5th 2007 6:58AM
I work at a T-mobile call center the "Wing" will launch on may 22nd
jdmkraziestyles @ May 6th 2007 10:24PM
I called the t-Mobile Customer Service today also and they confirmed that it will be called The Wing and it will come out on May 22. No price though.
Jace @ May 13th 2007 12:39AM
I have the MDA and I love it. I only wish that the Internet was faster so hopefully with this anticipated Wing phone that will be no problem. There have been some probs with my MDA, but nothing worth complaining about. The only thing that I have ran into is keeping the darn stylus in place. I have had two MDAs and they place the stylus holder at the bottom so it slips easily so I don't wrestle with it. Hopefully, they will have it at the top of The Wing this time! Cant wait for this new one! I agree with u..I hope more colors than that blue is available.
Jessie @ May 13th 2007 9:47AM
I called T-Mobile yesturday and they are "clueless" as to what is replacing the MDA. Then again T-Mobile's customer service is clueless about their own company. :-/
MARIA URBINA @ May 16th 2007 8:38PM
whohooo cant wait! LOST MY CELLY,

Marcel @ May 15th 2007 6:48PM
I can't wait to upgrade my MDA to a Wing due to several functional improvements
over the MDA. Despite the wing's hardware limitations (201 Mhz processor vs.
MDA's 195 Mhz), I can name 10 improvements over MDA that make easier to use and
just better than the Ts previous offering. 1. Slimmer, lighter 2. Bigger keys
for easier typing. 3. Convenient how numbers are placed in keypad in tic tac toe
format instead of across the top- so I don't have to use stylus to call. 4.
Windows Mobile 6.0. improved software 5. Direct Push email, so I don't have to
keep fetching/ pulling my emails all the time. 6. Better Camera- 2 Megapixel vs.
MDA's 1.3 Mps camera. 7. Convenients caps lock and Shift lock LED light near top
left above keyboard. 8. Spring Loaded Keyboard seems cool. 9. Extra keys in
front when slide is closed. 10. Rubberized coating makes the Wing more durable.
So Processor isn't 400 mhz but it has several improvements so if you can afford
it why not get the new best phone TMobile has to offer?
ptjims @ May 15th 2007 7:31PM
I spoke to a local store todya and was told it is due out may 22 then i confirmed it by calling a customer rep.

I am posting this comment not so much in regards to the wing which I plan on buying. But in regards to T-mobile I have had friends that love their phones and the company I also have had the ones that have had allot of issues. I was just kind of looking for a general conscientious on what different people I have had such a differe range of comments. I think that anything will be better then the nextel plan that I have right now. I just dont want to sign up for another company with shitty coustmer service and bad tech support.
shy @ May 16th 2007 12:55AM
i work for tmobile and there is also a red color also and release date may 22nd..299.99
Brett Braswell @ May 18th 2007 7:48PM
DUDES!! The OS is the biggest upgrade. With MOible 6.0 we will enjoy HTML email in its original format, with windows live we will be able to access MSN mobil features from teh today screen, not to mention sharing files and videos over windows live messenger pocket version is just as simple as on the desktop version. And voice command built in!! ONe can only hope the voice command software is the same as Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 currently purchasable on www.handango.com. YOu can download a flash demo of Windows MObile 6.0 however the demo is not the professional version. THe Demo is on the T-Mobile Dash. Just got our WIng Inventory in yesterday and OMG i cant wait to put my sim card in one!! Blackberry has been holding me over between the MDA and the WING but im a so ready to say BYE BYE PEARL

Michael @ May 19th 2007 3:09PM
I work in telesales for t-mobile and got a release for the wing the other day. It's keeping the name by the way, and it'll be able to connect to wifi networks, so the data plans on it will include hotspots. It's actually fairly pleasing to the eye, I didn't get a chance to play with one but my sup had one and showed it off a bit. I'm thinking about trading in my dash for one, and I love the dash.
josh campbell @ May 20th 2007 2:29PM
I was just at the T-Mobile store yesterday on 5/19, and renewed my contract for the new Wing. i was told i can pick it on tuesday 5/22. Riverside, CA.

Tuvia Mozorosky @ May 21st 2007 12:04PM
Will any of the T-Mobile smart phones, including the new WING or DASH access the Internet and E-mail in Israel (or any other country) without extra expensive fees?
alias21 @ May 21st 2007 2:13PM
I was just in a T-Mobile store over the weekend and the sales people confirmed that the Wing will be available for sale on Tuesday May 22nd. I was using their demo version of the wing and it is so freaking sweet! Much better then the MDA. I was told it is coming in two colors, blue which is the debut color and all stores will have on Tuesday and then eventually in black. The people at the store also said they believe it may come out in pink, but only after the demand for the Wing picks up.
mimi @ May 21st 2007 6:11PM
how much will internet run? does it use a stylus also like the mda? touch screen? i have a sidekick but i always wnated the mda.. this one looks sooo much better!
Max @ May 21st 2007 10:42PM
If you buy the phone with it's debut color blue, can you change the phone in for a black one when the black color eventually comes out? I want the phone now, but I would much rather have it in black instead of blue.... knowing my luck, I will be stuck with blue forever
Ness7386 @ May 22nd 2007 7:39PM
I heard that T-Mobile will have a program coming in early June that will allow you to trade in your MDA for the Wing. Can anyone confirm or dispell this rumor? That would be wonderful if it's true. But if it's not true, I don't want to put off getting the Wing while waiting for something that's not going to happen.
Marcel @ May 22nd 2007 1:45AM
Mimi, The T-Mobile Wing internet service will use the 29.99/mth Total Internet plan. Wing still uses stylus and touch screen.
