Sprint PPC-6800 (HTC Titan) in the wild
Canada's Telus may be in the process of beating it to the punch, but that's not stopping Sprint (and Verizon, for that matter) from prepping its own variant of the HTC Titan, the PPC-6800. A PPCGeeks forum member recently got the enviable opportunity to screw around with a prototype of the Sprint-branded unit -- and besides coming away with a veritable cornucopia of imagery, they've posted a few key details: in addition to rocking Windows Mobile 5 AKU 3.3 (Pocket PC Phone Edition, of course), the device will use a Qualcomm MSM7500 to push bits and bytes at around 400MHz (as we've already seen in its XV6800 sibling) and end up with about 174MB of usable Flash and 49MB of RAM. Of course, this is a prototype -- specs are subject to change -- but seeing how the Telus version is already on the streets, what you see here is probably darned near what you're going to get. Follow the break for some key shots.

OK Sprint has officialy gone crazy first the 4 month old Q is not getting WM6 we gather through sources.
No the PPC 6800 is only shipping with WM5 and not WM6. What is going on at Sprint?
How great is your new PPC 6800 running WM5 going to look next to Cingulars 8525 running WM6 after its free update

"veritable cornucopia of imagery", lol yeah ok.
Phone looks meh, still not thin enough with that useless keyboard that just takes up space. How about perfecting text entry so a keyboard is not necessary anymore. The styling is still 90's as well, they should take some cues from the Q styling, nice black svelte exterior with rubberized coating.
The specs are decent though, the memory is awesome, mucho welcome. Whats the deal with the rumor that bluetooth and wifi will NOT run together due to sharing a common antena?
Overall meh, but of course I will be first in line to buy it.

telus released the 4000 this week. I am betting they will hold off on the 6800. the 2 units are identical outside of memory differences. I am guessing they ran into problems which is no surprise to me as their network has been having problems all month. since the 4000 is priced as a pda phone the 6800 is bound to be overpriced. the only savings will be a 3 year contract and that is like signing pacts with a devil. my opinion is sprint will beat telus to the punch and do it by months not days or weeks. I will even bet the gsm units will release first even in the us.

...and it's grey. Hasn't anyone in the R\D department noticed that black is the new silver, when it comes to cell phones? This thing looks way too similar to it's predecessor, the PPC 6700....I'm really growing bored with Sprint's bland lineup.
Eludium-Q36 @ Apr 19th 2007 11:53PM
Thanks, but no thanks, this is a year too late. What yahoo's gonna spend $300+ for a phone now when everyone's gonna wanna do WIMAX in a year with a PPC-7000 ?! C'mon. C'mon.
Big Trav @ Apr 20th 2007 4:11PM
I would not be supprised to see this phone till after the first of june... it just keeps getting pushed back, I heard a rumor that on VZW is atttempting to get mobile TV on it... but i think it is just a rumor and not fact...
namechamps @ Apr 20th 2007 4:47PM
I doubt WiMax is going to come that soon.
Sprint may be planning to roll it out to "select" cities in 2008 but likely that means sometime late 2008 and to a few cities. It will be late 2009 early 2010 before WiMax is an option for most users. By 2010 most users would be looking to purchase a new phone anyways.
mick4437 @ Apr 22nd 2007 4:17PM
Does anyone know when this phone will be comming out?
anthony @ Apr 24th 2007 11:50PM
I DON'T KNOW" I'M ACTUALLY LOOKING TO GET OUT OF MY SPRINT 700P BUT SPRINT NEEDS TO COME UP WITH A GOOD GAME PLAN ON PDA'S,I WANT TO JUMP IN TO A PPC-6800,BUT WHAT'S THE USE I MIGHT AS WELL STICK TO WHAT I GOT ,SINCE THE DO,T WANT TO HERE WHAT WE WANT ,AND YES I TO AM TIRED OF SILVER BRING IN BLACK WITH THOSE PDA'S

I bought the 6700 back in Oct 2005, the week it came out, but will have to pass on this one as it just doesn't have enough for me to get excited. Is this the best Sprint/HTC could do in 1.5 years? Not even WM6! Give me a break!
Why can RIM(Blackberry) ship a new model a month and HTC/UTS can't even deliver a decently updated version in 1.5 years?

Adding the Phraze-It Keyboard 2.0 for typing with your index fingers would do a lot for this already powerful device. Using the Phraze-It Keyboard, you can type full sentences and paragraphs with your index fingers.
This text input application displays large keys for finger typing and offers computer keyboard functionality.
The Phraze-It Keyboard also lets you hold and thumb with the same hand.

I spoke to a Sprint rep today that verified that this phone will be coming out mid May probably the 21st so for everyone who claims that the phone won't come out until June or whenever you believe its going to come out then just know it will be coming out very soon so just wait and enjoy the unboxing shots and vids that I'm sure engadget and youtube will have for all of your viewing pleasures.
kiint @ May 10th 2007 7:06PM
Chris would like to buy some punctuation.

It is a sad, sad day in the world of sprint users... It has been confirmed that the release date has been pushed back until october.. I spoke with a sprint rep. this morning. i just hope my POS will last me until then

You all probably know by now that the 6800 or Titan as its called does have wm6 and sprint tv and music store capabilities. And you can order one right now!!!!!!!!!!!
It is also upgradeable to rev-A. This Phone looks Awesome!!!!!!! Ordered mine yesterday...Spring loaded keyboard. Also im sure that the bottom half of the phone holds more than the functions for the keyboard. The I phone has nothing on the Titan apples to apples.(except battery life)

Can I get a Telus phone and activate it on Bell here in Canada?

I also bought the PPC-6700 as soon as it became available and last week, my son bought the HTC-6800 (Mogul). Yeah, it's nicer. A few more bells and whistles, but not enough for me to upgrade to. I don't quite understand what the difference is between the currently available HTC-6800 and the soon to be released PPC-6800. Do any of you know? Someone also mentioned the ability to 'flash' an upgrade. Is this currently available and does this include the ability to upgrade from Win Mobile 5.0 to 6.0 and will this be a free upgrade?
