LG CU500 + Argentina = MU500

Not too far removed from its North American launch in CU500 guise, LG's metallic flip with the rotating cam is heading to South America -- this time as the "MU500." Much as the CU500 was North America's first HSDPA handset at retail, the MU500 will allegedly be Argentina's first, offering the same 1.3 megapixel cam, Bluetooth, and external music controls as its English-speaking cousin. Unlike the CU500, though -- and any phone launched since on AT&T, for that matter -- the MU500 supports video calling, a feature native to UMTS that most 3G carriers choose to deploy. Look for it to launch on Argentina's Personal network.

soon at&t will have the cu500v...which will be capable of video calling, it is to be the first phone they launch with such capabilities

Yeah, but what you're forgetting is that the video calling that AT&T is deploying, is ONE WAY.

I don't understand why they changed it to MU500. It doesn't make sense in spanish (as opposed to CU being "see you") It should have been the TVO500 (te veo) which means "i see you". I don't know what translator they have over there are korea but he needs to be fired.

I hate cingular's "video sharing" thing, though they say they'll put video calling later. video sharing is basically sending an MMS. it's really stupid. i wish there was a GSM company here in the states that used the european standards (900mhz, dvb-h, video calling) because i'd switch instantly (probably since they can roam in area they don't have towers). The main reason i'm with cingular is because i like to have the latest gsm technologies and t-mobile doesn't even have 3g.

just read an article on cingular's video sharing thing. they need HSUPA to do video calling which they're still in process of rolling out. after HSUPA comes video calling. video sharing needs only HSDPA. okay, i wait.

Why do they need HSUPA though, when every other GSM-3G carrier doesn't? They just wanna push an absolute USELESS feature, rather than actually allowing video calling.

#3 - I agree with yuo, but I thnk the reason we can't use European frequency 3G has something to do with the U.S. Military using that band or something. But it's not the frequencies that the carrier use that limit what can be done, it's teh retards that wear the suits that are 85 years old that think they understand what the 30 year old consumer wants in a phone.

My opinion though.

Cingular decided to take a differnt approach to "video calling" after realizing that this feature implemented as a two way "Video Call" was a big flop in the UK. Cingular is taking a different approach to the feature after doing customer surveys. After this study was finished it was discovered that one would be more willing to accept a Video "Video Share" than in a two way "Video Call".

As for the CU500 "CU" doesn't stand for "See you" It stands for Cingular UMTS.

To the idiot that made the comment about the "CU" and "MU", it has nothing to do with "see you", the C is for Cingular and the M is for Movistar (the carrier that is to issue this phone), who is the Argentinan equivilent to Cingular.

So Cingular did a study on this? Who'd they ask, and is this info available? (and don't think I'm trying to discredit you...I just crave info)

Just because something did'nt work in Britain or wherever, don't mean didlly squat here. I mean in Britain they eat spotted dick, but I don't see my local ACME running out of that item anytime soon from the mass droves of people that want to buy it!

Seriously, this Video Share that Cingular is deploying is HALF-DUPLEX. Just like the PTT they offer. They saw what happened to Verizon when they deployed PTT, (it DIDN'T sell!) but they deployed it anyway, so I'mma have to say that Cingular just has their thumbs up their asses on this one, no other excuse than that.

When did HALF-DUPLEX anything come back in style? You mean to tell me technology is now like fashion and like bell-bottoms and other fashion hoorahs of the 70's and 80's the Telegraph is going to make a come back? Is Cingular going to make me take a morse code class before I sign my next contract?!

Oh and by the way, I dont' believe HSUPA has been rolled out up in Canada, but Video Calling has been deployed up there. SOOOOOO

What's Cingular's excuse?

In Australia its called the TU-500, because its owned by the Australian carrier Telstra and we have two way video calling, its great but expensive
