Prepare to have your feathers ruffled Apple fanboys,
John Dvorak -- a name synonymous with curmudgeon -- has called on Apple to "pull the plug on the iPhone" and pass it along to some other "suckers" before it's too late. Hell, you don't even have to be a fanboy in this case to feel the retch of his nonsensical nausea welling within. His case? Essentially, as a newcomer "there is no likelihood that Apple can be successful in a [cellphone] business this competitive." Echoing similar sentiments
shared by Palm's Ed Colligan. Of course, we've already witnessed a newcomer step into the mobile handset business, which Dvorak describes as a "buzz saw waiting to chop up newbies," and emerge as
the boutique, go-to provider for high-end handsets -- right,
HTC? We're not saying Apple's success is guaranteed, but let's call this rant what it is: shameless attention whoring. Well, he's got it.

why are those CEOs acting like children?

because they see the potential and it worries them.

HTC open, Apple closed. Closed = failure in highly competitive markets. A couple years after the launch, the only iPhone alive will be Cisco's.

Why does anybody still give this guy the time of day? He never has anything worth listening to so he just tries to make waves.

iPhone is a one-trick pony.
What will they do, make it thinner? Make it different colors? Add a whammy bar?
It's already played out and manufacturers are scrambling to offer better features for less money (Samsung Upstage, anyone?).
Thanks for raising the bar, Apple. Now F%#@ off.

Dvorak thrives on negativity. He's worthless in the real world. His predictions are rarely accurate if you go back through the years. I'm not a big iPhone guy but he is a talking monkey.

I gotta give Dvorak credit - every couple of months he gets a 200,000 hit boost by trolling Apple fans. Ad revenue++

HTC isn't nearly as popular as you guys seem to think it is, and they certainly don't make "boutique" phones.

So is Engadget an Apple Fanboy site?
The iPhone may be pretty but it's dated tech. It doesn't take a genius to figure this out...
Let's let the fanboys take the hit on this one. I'll stick with more modern devices.
DallasHawk @ Mar 30th 2007 12:42AM
Shameless attention whoring by using the iPhone? That's funny! Did Engadget somehow think they had the market cornered on using the iPhone for shameless attention whoring?

This guy is a toolbox. Apple is gonna sell tons of these. Apple has probably created more buzz for this product than any other product in history and it is not even out yet.
