First the
Chocolate, now the
Shine -- kudos, Verizon, you actually seem to be doing a reasonably good job keeping up with the musical chairs LG's playing with its fashion line. LG was pushing the VX8700 pretty hard on the show floor here, with a full kiosk devoted to its brushed metal sleekness. Interestingly, we were told Verizon doesn't have plans to use the "Shine" branding with the phone, despite the fact that LG was showing it on Shine stands, and -- let's face it -- it's a Shine through and through. It felt super solid, the metal was gorgeous, and the external display was nifty; yeah, it out-RAZRs the RAZR alright, but in 2007, is that enough? Time'll tell.

Jeff @ Mar 27th 2007 10:31PM
i wish the predecessor (8600) had this keypad :-(
the versions in other countries had it, but for some reason, verizon didn't use it.
elgee02 @ Mar 27th 2007 11:25PM
EASE UP ON THE ALL CAPS THERE DANIEL! CALM DOWN!
The phone should be released mid-April is my best guess. Not too much longer so hold tight.
tim @ Mar 27th 2007 10:39PM

downsouth821 @ Mar 28th 2007 12:39AM
Number 1. I can assure you that the phone is coming out sooner than you think. I am a Wireless Expert for Best Buy. And I got to play with the demo at a Best Buy Tech Tour. So if Best Buy got there hands on it, that means verizon is putting it out soon. I cant tell you the date because they can fire me lol

cool looking phone. would be better if it had vcast mobile TV. i have the enV right now and i'm thinking of getting the RAZR or KRZR because i miss having a flip phone, but i think i'll get this instead.
Otter @ Mar 28th 2007 2:25PM
Hey Novey, I'm debating between this "Shine" and the enV. What are the pros cons of enV?

LG today officially unveiled its sleek VX8700 multimedia clamshell, to be available for Verizon Wireless customers next week.
LG today announced the release of the LG VX8700. The multimedia phone comes in a sleek clamshell design, and sports a 2 Megapixel camera, 262K QVGA screen, as well as a V Cast Video and Music capable media player.
The VX8700 weighs in at 3.77 oz. and measures 3.82" x 1.95" x 0.54". Operating on CDMA/EV-DO networks, the handset also features a microSD memory slot, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0, web-based e-mail and instant messaging, as well as a Flash user interface.
LG claims a talk time of up to 3 hours and a standby time of up to 10 days for the VX8700's battery, and the phone will also offer a GPS radio and the VZ Navigator service.
The LG VX8700 will be available from Verizon Wireless from April 6, selling for $179.99 with a new two-year contract.

Why on earth would anyone want a POS RAZR or KRZR over an enV? The enV is the slickest phone I ever had.
Michael @ Mar 28th 2007 5:58PM
Asking about this versus an enV is like asking about a stiletto versus a Swiss Army knife. Two entirely different animals. The VX8700 is "cool" and thin. The enV is bulky, has a full keyboard for texting and other features. Appropriate comparisons would be the enV versus the Samsung U740, and the VX8700 versus the KRZR, Maxx VE or the VX 8600.
Steve @ Mar 29th 2007 3:44PM
Dude otter get the enV i got it this past saturday it is so sweet the keyboard is nice as ever. Im going to bet that the 2mp camera in the shine isnt going to be as good as the enV. I debated whether to get the enV or not and I did so get it. Pros are nice secreen, camera, UI, music playback, features, lens cover, navigator, email, and you can press button and have texts read to you. Cons if you are worried about size of a phone (not really that big if you compar to SK3),only two UI's but communicator is great, and the bulge of the camera but its not as bad as I thought. ITS GREAT GET IT!

I'll pass on the clam shell...the Shine slider is the one everyone is waiting for. The mirror front is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait for summer.
JDigga @ Mar 30th 2007 2:26PM
So is there any word that the slider version is going to come to Verizon? I like this phone but I like the slider version more.

The LG VX8600 has a useless speakerphone. Even with the master volume up all the way, the LG VX8600's speakerphone can NOT be heard, unless you hold it right next to your ear.
Does anyone know if the LG VX8700 will have a significantly improved speakerphone that can actually be heard and not sound distorted?
Jack @ Apr 6th 2007 1:45AM
It's a nice phone, but nowhere near as good as the Original LG Shine that they selling in other countries. Look it up LG Shine KE970. Looks hella lot better than this one.
Jack @ Apr 6th 2007 1:46AM
Oh by the way, I sent a message asking about it to the LG website, and they said that it is not going to be coming to the US market. Luckily I got one, but the fingerprints is a pain in the ass to constantly have to clean off.
Angel @ Jul 23rd 2007 2:14PM
I love this phone and i'm wondering when i can get it here in sasktel or about how soon i should expect. thanks
