AT&T finally gets Nokia 6126
After it had been rumored in the pipe many, many moons ago without ever materializing, we'd assumed AT&T had given up on making the Nokia 6126 a reality. Silly us -- we forgot that American carriers have no qualms with releasing phones 11 agonizing months after they've been announced by the manufacturer! We digress, though; the Finnish clamshell is still a totally decent low-end piece with microSD expansion, a 1.3 megapixel cam, EDGE data, and dual color displays. Look for it now in stores and online -- price will likely vary from market to market, but we're showing $80 after rebates on a two-year contract.

I just bought this phone Tuesday night at Cellular One. It was $250 retail, $80 with the two-year contract extension, then it had a $50 mail-in rebate, which made my total for this phone a whopping $30 +tax. I love it thus far. The camera could be better and it isn't what I was expecting from a 1.3 megapixel camera, and the battery life is bordering on major suckage, but I can live with it. The screen quality alone is well worth it.

I bought the 6126 about 5 days ago and I absolutely love it. The screen is amazing and the keypad is excellent. I don't know what the term "slippery" in some of the reviews means, but whatever it is, I like it.
Someone commented that you can't assign a ringtone to a specific contact but that is not true. You simply go to the contact in the address book and hit options and it's under details. There was also a comment that you can't send a photo in an e-mail and again, this is not true. You hit options under images and hit send and then instead of a phone number, you write in an e-mail address. You must hold down the # key while you type the e-mail address, but that's pretty simple. Also, someone commented that you can't make a wallpaper out of a photo but this is not true either. As for accidentally hitting the camera button when the phone is closed, just go to settings/phone settings and turn on the automatic keyguard to lock the keys. It unlocks automatically when you open the phone.
I'll admit a lot of this stuff you have to figure out for yourself as the manual sucks. But that's a problem with the manual, not the phone.
My only negative comment is that you absolutely need to buy a mini-SD card (I bought a 1 gig card on ebay for 12 bucks), because there is only 10 MB of on board memory in the phone.
All in all, it's a pretty cool phone.

You call this low-end? Then what do you call a Nokia 6030 or a Samsung t219?
This is at least mid-range...

I've been using this phone with AT&T (Cingular) for months now, and it's been superb. Amazing big and sharp screen inside, small screen on cover. Push button to open, expansion slot, MP3 player, video... all the bells and whistles. It's been flawless, and is slim and light. I paid $250 from Amazon, 'cause I had to have it back last Fall.

Kristen:
I had the same phone for T-Mobile and just switched to the Nokia 5300. The horrid battery life is a quirk of Nokia batteries on their latest models... the battery life the first 3-5 days is going to be absolutely shit... but hold it out. It will eventually break in and give you the 2-3 days of charge the average well-used phone gets these days. I got the Nokia 5300 sunday and I've charged it... at least 12 times. Now the battery bar is barely moving as I use it. Wait it out, it definitely gets better.

This is the 6131 in Europe, my boyfried has had it for half a year. Superb screen, updated S40 software which is great (especially the calendar app) and he never complained about battery capacity (although he is not a heavy user, doesn't use the mp3 or radio function). The photo quality is bad, as with most Nokia phones, but the phone design is terrific with automatic open button, attractive exterior and very large keypad.

Chuck: this is definitely *not* a low-end phone, you're right.
A.J.: well I love the phone and I have no intentions of switching, so I guess I will wait it out and see if the battery life improves. I think it has already a little. I don't make too many calls, don't listen to music on it (yet), and text message a bit. Lately my battery has just been used up by using Bluetooth to get ringtones and wallpapers on it from my iBook. And just admiring the beautiful display, haha.

Is the Nokia 6126 branded Cingy or ATT? Thanks!
