The Boy Genius Report: BlackBerry 8300 walkthough
Field report tidbits from mobile insider Boy Genius.
Sit back and relax while we take you on a tour of the new BlackBerry 8300's OS, aptly named 4.2.2. New features -- which were reported here -- include built-in Spell Check, Full Screen Mode while playing videos, creating and managing custom folders, and much more. The camera application has an amazing light sensor that will gage the surrounding light and turn on the flash or not (much improved from the Pearl). The speakers for playing audio and video are extremely loud, yet still manage to sound pretty full. Let's not forget the keyboard of the 8300 which is probably the biggest improvement overall. Click on for the full OS walkthough!

Awesome! This will be a great device with many needed improvements on the 8800 (even though I love it!). "Consumer version" is a tough statement to use for this one....it will surely suite most people's business needs, and bring some "fun" along for the ride too!
Serioulsy BG....can you please shed some light on a) for sure does it have GPS??....and b) please....tell us what you know on a "ship date" from AT&T...!!
Keep it up!

BG: can you post a screen shot of the web browser with the smallest font on the device, assuming this is configurable?
I'm thinking of replacing my Treo, and am tired of PalmOS, but love the 320x320 screen and small fonts. RIM seems to eat up the screen with giant fonts.
Thanks for your great walkthroughs.

Where did these screen caps come from? Looks like someone has access to a 4.2.2.38 emulator image.

Need to see some side by side comparisons to the 8800 before I can get too excited. Ability to create folders is cool - but not enough to justify an upgrade (plus the O/S may become available for the 8800 at some point).
Now if you were publishing a review and the 8300 could read HTML email (is it really that hard??), or stream video over a fast 3G/EVDO connection then you'd have my attention.

Is there any chance that RIM will update the 8100 with the features seen here? I'm a new BlackBerry user, so I don't know how they usually handle OS upgrades, but I would love to see the new media player on my Pearl!

These OS features are likely not to be only available to the 8300 folks... I'm sure there'll be a 4.2.2 for the 8800, etc.
