Sprint bundles unlimited calling, texting and web access

Since Sprint Nextel is one of the few national wireless carriers here in the U.S. without prepaid calling plans, it seemed to us that 2007 might have become the year that the CDMA carrier wised up and offered wireless service to those with suboptimal credit -- or those who are not liking long-term contracts. Well, Sprint has dropped a bomb of sorts and has announced a few plans applicable to the San Francisco area only (for now) which include unlimited voice calling, messaging and mobile web access -- all for $120 per month. Add unlimited PC access through a Sprint handset or modem and you arrive at a $150 per month price -- just $30 more. Sprint's calling this the "grenade" plan, and we can see why. Throwing down unlimited wireless voice, texting and handset web access for such a cheap price may blow up some of the competition's plans -- perhaps even outside the wireless arena. In a high-tech area like the Bay Area, this is indeed going to be a hot potato. Will MVNOs like Helio and Amp'd Mobile pick up the challenge? Yes -- this is a trial only, and in one market at this time. Here's hoping the Sprint folks find it in their hearts to roll this out nationwide. We just hope the network quality does not go down with the price.

Sprint does have a pre-paid service, it's called Boost Mobile.

i pay $100 for all of the above, and i've never had an overage.

These new plans look nice. Sprint already had an unlimited voice plan for $199 a month.. and I don't think that included data. So $120 for unlimited everything? That's a way better deal.

This will be a good plan for the younger set who use tons of minutes and their parents don't want to be spooked with any overages.

For most other people, something like the sprint SERO plans are a better deal. Grab a moto Q for $99, load pdanet and you have unlimited evdo, unlimited picture messages (note sms still costs extra on sero) and 500 voice minutes for $30 per month.

just for the record Virgin mobile is becoming obsolete and Boost is not owned by sprint nextel so all things considered sprint together with Nextel is prepaid-less

Amp'd already offers a competitive plan with the same features and addons plus unlimited voice calling all for $115. All while using the Verizon network and roaming partners.

Lol 500 mins??? Are you serious? I use that in 3 days! RRight now I have Cingular & I pay 200+ per month for unlimited voice & unlimited Blackberry & 3000 SMS per month. I would saw off my left foot for an unlimited plan this cheap!

why does everyone keep saying sprint doesn't have a prepaid plan?!?!? i see the cards in the stores all of the time. i was offered a prepaid plan the day i singed up for sprint because my credit wasn't as good back then. SPRINT HAS A PREPAID PLAN! if the writters maybe, could of, should of, went into a sprint store to find out! they could have saved face on their statement.

operasam, with sprint you can roam for free on verizons voice and data network. so any plan from sprint is a million times better then anything dealing with verizon.
