This could be interesting, but what would Verizon gain from this merger? More spectrum in markets where they most likely already have it? Alltel's customers? If this happens, you can count on Alltel's GSM roaming network they got from Western Wireless to disappear very quickly, which would harm T-Mobile and Cingular coverage a great deal in the mountains. In my area, the two cellular carriers are Verizon and Alltel; hopefully the FCC would force Verizon to give up the old Alltel cellular spectrum, just like they forced Cingular to give up spectrum in markets where AT&T and Cingular were the 2 cellular carriers.
