Mmm boy, we certainly do like us some clear shots of unreleased phones from every conceivable angle. Especially when said phone is the LG VX8700, Verizon's heir apparent in the rare air of its high-end clamshell line. We've seen a
peek of it before, though the displays weren't nearly as, well... "on" as they are here. Word has it the 8700's guts are all but identical to those of the
VX8600 before it -- save for a lack of external touch sensitive controls -- which should leave us with a 1.3 megapixel cam, microSD expansion, and stereo Bluetooth for those tunes you'll be grabbing off VCAST. Anyone care to start a pool for what fiscal week this thing might hit streets?
[Thanks, anonymous tipster]
Update: Several tipsters have noted that the VX8700 rocks a 2 megapixel cam, a slight upgrade over the 8600's 1.3 megapixel unit, and the screen may be clocking in at 320 x 240 resolution -- our fingers are crossed. [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

When will it be available?
strider_mt2k @ Feb 22nd 2007 10:04AM
That's pretty slick looking.
Hopefully they bolstered the speaker a little over the v8600s though.
A small complaint, but it could be a tad stronger in volume and clarity on mine.
Michael @ Feb 22nd 2007 11:36AM
One key difference between this and the 8600 is that all the buttons (volume, speakerphone, etc.) are moved down to the base. I agree, if the speakerphone on this one is good, this phone will be a winner.
MajorXero @ Feb 22nd 2007 11:38AM
It's nice and all, but I refuse to sacrifice my ability to view text messages on the external screen. That's why I skipped over the 8300 and got the 8600.
HungD @ Feb 22nd 2007 1:13PM
Closer inspection shows a 2.0 mp cam. Plus I don't see an easily accessible microSD slot.

The original SHINE from which this clearly drew its inspiration would have been a much better choice then this.
I mean, what good is a SHINE like phone without the mirrored finish that it the claim to fame on the original?
This is little more then a todays midrange spec'd RAZR knockoff
Is anyone ever going to come out with the next big thing? Thin aluminum shelled phone + laser etched keypad has been 'it' for years now... so maybe that is the signature style for phones of this whole decade but really, should some one be looking onwards to what's next?

what are the odds of the UI saying the nice complentary grey? i'm sure the network will ruin it with our favorite red.
Michael @ Feb 22nd 2007 7:02PM
It looks like the GSM version of this phone, the SV490, is set to debut in April, if that means anything. Maybe it doesn't.
Fred @ Feb 22nd 2007 7:34PM
Isn't this phone already out. I think Motorola makes it though...
what a rip.
Robert @ Mar 10th 2007 1:05AM
I really want to wait and see if Verizon ever releases the original SHINE in the U.S.
VZWTech @ Mar 21st 2007 4:00PM
Little birdie told me this phone should be launching within the next 2 weeks. And look closely: the EVDO label on the signal strength, status bars, and all the like are VZW. No need to worry about Big Red ruining your fun by plastering everything to look like a firetruck. But be prepared to have the VZW UI (shock of all shocks), so please, don't complain endlessely about it like every other post

i cannot wait until this phone comes out so i can upgrade, i am due for an upgrade, almost got the Krz, then was told the LG VX8600 is better, but why get the VX8600 when this SHINE is about to come out? :)

Does anyone know if this uses Bluetooth 2.0?
James DeMayo @ Apr 28th 2007 8:28PM
Just got the hone today. Easy to set up and a great screen. Good weight and I love it. So far! Hope it last. The leather case? Not sure yet. Never had a case to encasing the phone, BUT if it drops it is protect. Ordered the larger battery but have to be shipped to house. Just my opinion. James
