Slim dual-hinged Samsung U740 now available from Verizon

There are many phones that solicit the response as in "I want it now" -- and no handsets evoke that from many text-centric customers like a dual-hinge QWERTY email and text messaging experience. Well, if you're a fan (or subscriber) of Verizon Wireless and you paid attention to Samsung announcements at CES recently, you'll be glad to hear that the Samsung SCH-U740 is now available from that carrier (according to them). The U740 is not really a groundbreaker per se, but the dual-hinge design just took a large step further with the U740's slim body. If you run into the U740 at a Verizon store this week, drop us a comment and let us know if it's indeed in the wild. Until then, the absolute best quote from the Verizon release is this: "available in a stylish metallic champagne color with couture appeal and Ivy League brainpower." Harvard and Princeton grads -- this one's all yours.

got the phone a few days ago...it's a lot better than i expected. i'm really surprised there aren't more phones like this out there. so this is in a way ground-breaking b/c of it's form factor and dual flip design. the only complaint i really have is the keyboard- it works, but...there are a few tweaks that can be made to perfect it for the next time around. i've had every high-end phone from verizon imaginable in the past few years...this is definitely the best overall. sad to say though...i'll be jumping ship to the new and rebuilt deathstar a.k.a. AT&T. in the meantime, i'm loving this phone...

david...read on buddy. i was referring to the dual-flip and size with qwerty incorporated into the design. what other phone has this besides its predecessor the D307 (cingular). since i am an expert...i'll say this phone will be a huge success and it shall spark a lot of interest in the dual-flip qwerty compact arena..mark my words! this won't be as big as the RAZR's impact..but, you'll see what i'm saying a few months down the road. no one wants a big clunker like the crackberry or treo...who really does MS Office documents on their cellphone anyways...if you do, you just are asking for trouble. smartphones are way to big for that matter...this is the only way to do it.

Verizon doesn't get it. This is not the phone people want. They want Pearls, iPhones, and Blackjacks.

Well, I don't want a pearl, iphone or blackberry. They're too big! This phone seems appealing. I'm watching the boards to see if it's easy to add MP3 ringtones to individual caller IDs (easy on my e815 - i email them to dummy addresses from my microSD, then save the mp3 to the phone) and if it will allow BT contact calling.

Verizons webpage says that this phone is "wireless sync capable". Does this mean it is SyncML compliant? Has anyone seen if you will be able to tether this phone to you computor?

Had the phone about 12 hours. Keyboard is easy for me to use. Love the mobile web/vcast for $15 option. Phone's small, solid and a great replacement for my e815.

Rumor is that this phone has no vibrate. Is that true? Can it be? That is ridiculous. That alone will keep many people from buying this.

It has vibrate and the function is 2-3 times more powerful than my last two motorolas. You can't ignore its vibrate.

Been there, done that. Started to receive the phones in the store a few days ago, and it seems like a good phone. Slim, great display resolution, and good audio clarity. Only thing that scraes me is the dual-hinge. Anyone remember the Samsung SCH-a610? Hinge kept snapping. Seems sturdy enough, just a little worried how it's gonna hold up over time

Picked up this phone a few weeks ago. Love it. I had a Treo 700 that just stopped working which in a way was a blessing. It forced me to unload the brick of a phone that it was trade up to this light easy to carry flip phone. The QUERTY keypad is great and the web access works well. The only thing I don't like that it defaults to Verizon's home page which I then have to launch other sites from a "favorites" link. It would be nice to have more control. I live on my phone, checking emails and text like crazy. This phone is perfect.
