AKU3 for Verizon's XV6700 WM5 device 'officially' going to be launched

Just when we thought mighty Verizon had given up on official WM5 update support for the XV6700, this comes along in the form of an official email response to one of our readers in a response from UTStarcom, distributor of many things HTC ending in "6700" in relation to WM Smartphones -- "AKU3 will be coming out sometime late March or early April". While that response is quite the vague picture and is by no means filled with detail, we have to give it up to Verizon Wireless who has decided (apparently) to throw some support love up for existing UTStarcom XV6700 owners. You know, the ones who paid more than a few bills for their WM devices in the first place and who are most likely avid wireless data users and decent data revenue subscribers. Verizon, you just scored a point in our book.

Sorry guys. You've must of been living under a rock or something. The official 3.3 update has been available from UTStarcom for quite some time now.

All I gotta say is its about darn time! I have been a little scared to run the AKE 3.3 update that has been ported to the Apache over at ppcgeeks.com so this will be very nice I just wish I didnt have to wait for it to come out. I want it now.

Typical VZW, too little too late. At least 5 versions of hacked Apache AKU ROM updates are loose in the wild right now.
At least they didn't totally abandon us. What does this say about the upcoming (allegedly) 6800? That its lame and delayed?

Hmm, guess I'll wait rather than risk bricking my brand new XV6700 with the hacked AKU 3. Glad to hear it's coming, but am concerned they will simply use it as a way to block out "currently unsupported" features like tethering, which I have running under Windows Vista RC2. =)
Hoping for A2DP stereo Bluetooth and official support of tethering along with some performance boost - browsing the web using EVDO on the device itself is unbearably slow (WLAN seems to be OK tho). It must be the limited memory on the unit and not the radio though, because I saw 1600+kbps up/125kbps down through USB this morning. Wondering if we'll all see a bump up on the upload speed even with out Rev. 0 radios.

I'm wondering if the person at ut was confused. The 6800 is supposed to be out around that time and will come with AKU 3.x. I run AKU 3.3 now on my 6700 but would be nice to have an official base rom intended for it.
