CDMA Motorola MAXX Ve in the flesh, kind of
It's been a few months since we heard a rumble from the CDMA side of the stable, until recently when a Howard Forums member put up marketing pics of the yet to be Motorola MAXX Ve. The device has been updated with a new color scheme, will support VCAST Video and Music (sorry, no TV support here fellas), EV-DO, have a 2 megapixel shooter with expandable microSD memory, and that infamous Verizon interface. Other than that, we are on pins and needles hungering for more information. Anyone care to share?

Have you people ever travelled outside the US? This phone, along with many others, has been available for sale (unlocked if you wish) in Italy for months. If this article is supposed to be news, it is outdated. However, if this blog is merely a façade for the wireless networks to peddle their wares, then touché.
I have been getting a feeling for the last few months that the fanboys at engadget are now firmly in the pocket of The Networks.

C Dizzle: What this article is referring to is the CDMA version of the Maxx, what you find in Italy is most likely a GSM variant. So yes, this is news.

C Dizzle - Show me where the CDMA Motorola RAZR maxx Ve is avaialble outside the U.S.

C Dizzle that's the GSM version and even that hasn't been out for months. You're thinking of the V3X I bet. This is a Verizon branded CDMA phone that hasn't been released anywhere yet.

That phone with a Sanyo UI and Sprint Branding would be the true hotness.
Oh yeah, and C Drizzle, this is CDMA, not GSM so you clearly are not in the know by any means.

this, without the infamous RAZR lip, and on sprint with the glorious UI from my samsung A900, would be teh pwn. but verizon won't let me put a nice UI on it, sprint doesn't seem posed to get it (and even if they do, i doubt moto would come up with a UI as nice as the A900's), and motorola seems to be attached to the lip.
does it do Rev. A?

I do believe although his comments were grossly incorrect about the availability of the cdma phone outside the US, he does open up a whole other can worms. By adjusting his comment slightly the obvious shortcommings of this cdma and all others jump out bite you on the ass. When you are outside the US(north america ...don't forget the eskimos in canada) what phone will you use? Ouch, did that hurt? I sent my boss to Jamaica a while back to a convention with a cheap v3 gsm phone. On his return he said every american there (all on cdma) borrowed his phone daily. his bill was huge but the point is obvious. Don't be a sucker! there are not enough evdo towers and fully 3g handsets available in the cdma world to even come close to what gsm has brought the world. unfortunately n.america has fallen behind the world setting up 3g gsm also.

I don't leave the US, so CDMA's better coverage for voice and 3G data sits just fine with me. When the time comes to leave the US, I have a little Nokia POS that I bought unlocked off of ebay for $10. Until then, I'll enjoy EV-DO's massive footprint in my area.
Thanks!

Hey Jason, if I, you know, ever left the US, and went somewhere with out CDMA, I'd get some prepaid SIM in a GSM phone. Or I could rent a GSM phone from Verizon. Or if I did it frequently I could switch to Cingular or Tmobile or purchase a CDMA/GSM phone. Just because your boss's friends weren't smart enough to figure out their phones wouldnt work over there doesn't mean we all are.
