T-Mobile rolls out HTC Athena as "Ameo"
Move over, Universal, there's a new sheriff in town. The Athena from HTC is finally starting to make some public appearances in carrier livery, and we've gotta say, T-Mobile Pink is suiting this thing just fine. Specs for the new reigning king of HTC's expansive Windows Mobile lineup include a 5-inch VGA display, an 8GB hard drive to supplement any Flash you might have stowed in the miniSD slot, on-board GPS, quadband GSM plus HSDPA (sorry, yanks -- 2100MHz only), 3 megapixel camera, an XScale core clipping right along at 624MHz, and -- get this -- three styli in the box, two traditional and one multi-function pen. T-Mobile's European division will get this as an exclusive for a few weeks as the "Ameo," at which point we'd imagine a wider European release is in order. American availability, as always, is an open question.

How much is it and where can I get one?
Paralel @ Jan 23rd 2007 4:08PM
I really don't like this, I much prefer the attached keyboard of the Universal.
I think HTC made a big mistake with this design.

Keep in mind, at this point anyway, this is a rumor. T-Mobile has not made this announcement (yet).
Pocketinfo.nl doesn't make this very clear, but there's nothing about the Ameo on the T-Mobile web site linked to, just a promise that it will be there soon.

This is just about perfect, but if the Omni comes out and it has GPS onboard, I think I'll go for the smaller option...
...I hate waiting though!

A 5" VGA screen and a 624 MHz processor sounds to me like it will be eating up battery unbelievably fast and producing a fair bit of heat.
Any ideas on how they are countering both of these problems?

As long as it cost under $500, why would you not buy this instead of an Applephone? A 5" VGA screen makes a pretty video player...

Wait wait wait!
Doesn't Tmobile have Fav5 going on now? Why does the left softkey read "Favoriteten"? Is someone playing tricks on us or is that something that TMob will use to counter Alltel's Fav10???
Chi @ Jan 25th 2007 5:06AM
#7 you read it wrong.
It says "Favorieten" Which means Favourites (Or Favorites in your yankee speak).
Chillin @ Jan 25th 2007 5:08AM
^hhmmm, what was that? My name is Chillin not "Chi".
