Samsung to show new mobile broadcast standard

Apparently, Samsung couldn't find anything it liked when it rummaged through the existing grab bag of mobile TV standards -- DVB, DMB, MediaFLO, ISDB, the list goes on -- so it's gone and cooked up another, "Advanced Vestigial Sideband," with the hopes of courting North American broadcasters as they make the switch from analog to digital. Demos of the tech will take place at CES this coming week, which Samsung says it's currently positioning for PMPs and in-car TVs rather than cellphones. Let's be honest, though; "Samsung" and "cellphone" go together like peas in a pod, and we've gotta believe a successful launch will lead to phone integration in the not-too-distant future.
